The Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have constantly targeted the NDA government for failing to act on the Vijay Mallya case, the fugitive businessman. They have regularly accused the central government of shielding Mallya. However, it is ironic to see that one of Mallya’s family members, Samar Singh was helping Parth Pawar with his campaign. Samar Singh is the son-in-law of Vijay Mallya . Samar also handles Parth’s social media and is an investment banker and businessman based in the USA. Parth Pawar, is the grand nephew of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and is contesting these Lok Sabha elections from Maval Constituency.
The 29 year old NCP candidate in his defence said that Samar Singh should not be blamed for the wrong doings of his father-in-law. He also added that Samar is a good friend of his and so Singh’s presence is not political but the support comes from the friendly ties between the two. Singh is seen frequently assisting Parth in his campaign. Explaining his association with Singh, Parth said, “Samar and I have been friends for a long time. He campaigns for me like my other friends. Why should he be blamed for Mallya’s wrongdoings? He is also returning to the US.”
Congress supremo Rahul Gandhi, while describing his NYAY scheme, explained how illicit money from businessmen would be used to fund the scheme. The hypocrisy is evident as the son-in-law of the most sought fugitive businessman, Vijay Mallya, is now supporting the Nationalist Congress Party.
Rahul Gandhi had blamed the Prime Minister in the past for helping Mallya escape. He said that PM was behind the “Great Escape” of Mallya. He had said that CBI’s move to dilute the lookout sanction notice against Mallya was sanctioned by the PM. One of his tweets read, “The CBI reports directly to the PM. It is inconceivable that the CBI, in such a high profile, controversial case, would change a lookout notice without the approval of the PM,”. In defence to Rahul’s accusation the CBI said that Mr Mallya was questioned on December 9, 10 and 11 in 2018. There was no reason to believe he could escape.
Mallya’s Great Escape was aided by the CBI quietly changing the “Detain” notice for him, to “Inform”. The CBI reports directly to the PM. It is inconceivable that the CBI, in such a high profile, controversial case, would change a lookout notice without the approval of the PM.

After failing in his attempt to frame the Prime Minister in Vijay Mallya’s escape, Rahul Gandhi shifted the blame to Finance Minister Arun Jaitely. Congress president said, “The Finance Minister talks to an absconder (Mallya), and the absconder tells the Finance Minister ‘I am going to London’. Yet the Minister neither tells the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED) or the police. Why?” He said that Jaitely gave Vijay Mallya a free passage.
Rahul Gandhi should be ready to provide answers to questions that will be raised with its alliance being supported by Vijay Mallya’s son-in-law. To Congress and NCP’s surprise, NDA government played its masterstroke in the Vijay Mallya’s case. UK approved Vijay Mallya’s extradition. The UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid reportedly signed the order to extradited Vijay Mallya. Modi government had dealt severe blows to Vijay Mallya in the past too. But by successfully getting his extradition approved, the Modi government has now proved that it is worth its salt. It showed that Modi government has delivered in a big way as far as achieving what it had been elected for is concerned.
