The JNU leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who is contesting from Begusarai on the Communist Party ticket, claims to be unemployed in the electoral affidavit. He has mentioned a total of 8.5 lakhs income in the last two years. Along with his financial assets the JNU leader also has 5 cases which are registered against him as the JNU Student Union president.
The 32-year-old is contesting on Communist Party ticket from Begusarai which was known as the “Leningrad of Bihar.” The JNU leader has said that his income is derived from his writings. He has described himself as a “freelancer” who writes and gives lectures in various universities, for a living. Kanhaiya Kumar’s article has appeared in an infamous journal blacklisted globally as a predatory journal. According to My Nation report, the renowned, globally trusted Beall’s List had listed the International Research Journal of Humanities, Engineering and Pharmaceutical Sciences (IJHEPS), where Kanhaiya’s article appeared, as a “predatory journal”.
Kanhaiya Kumar has also mentioned that the sale of his book “Bihar to Tihar” has been a source of income, although he has not listed the amount. The cash in hand according to the affidavit with Kanhayiya is 24,000. His investments and savings in the bank is a total of 3,57,848. He has no agricultural land in his name. He has one immovable asset which is his ancestral house in his native village in Bihar. His father is a farmer and his mother is an anganwadi worker.
The JNU leader who was arrested by Delhi Police for chanting anti-India slogans will be standing against Giriraj Singh of BJP. The RJD opposition of the CPI candidate is Tanweer Hasa. Both the opposition leaders are veteran leaders of Bihar politics.
The CPI Party has also criticized the RJD government for not supporting Kanhaiya Kumar. Kanhaiya Kumar leader is a doctorate and claims to be unemployed in the affidavit he has submitted to the Election Commission of India. Kanhaiya Kumar recently submitted his Phd thesis titled ‘The Process of Decolonisation and Social Transformation in South Africa.’ He completed his thesis under the guidance of Left-leaning professor SN Malakar in the Centre for African Studies, School of International Studies (SIS).
The major source of finance for the CPI candidate was crowd funding that was supported by people from various walks of life. JNU doctorate received support from industries like Bollywood. Hundreds of people on Tuesday had joined Kanhaiya in the two kilometre foot march waving red flags in the town.
