After failing to secure an alliance with the Congress in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party’s electoral conquest has now turned into a battle for survival. AAP candidate from East Delhi, Atishi Marlena, giving in to desperation, has appealed to the voters to vote for ‘goons’ in order to defeat PM Modi. With the dismal performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, AAP, with its fractured leadership, is on a path to further worsen its electoral position in the 2019 general elections.
Atishi Marlena can be heard clearly, asking voters to support goons in order to defeat PM Modi. Twitter user Chowkidar Archie had posted a video on twitter which displays her meek and desperate attempt to mislead the electorate. She tweeted, “A real gem from #AtishiMarlena She says even if you have to vote for Gundas to defeat Modi-Shah duo, just do it This is the real agenda of all opposition parties All they care for is to defeat PM @narendramodi & not India or its people Kuch bhi kar lo par #ModiAaneWalaHai”

In the video, Atishi can be clearly heard saying that it is a fact that there is no single party in the nation that can defeat the BJP. She further adds that we should vote for SP and BSP without caring about the candidate, just vote for the coalition blindly (even if the candidate is a goon).
Anand Ranganathan also called out Atishi’s desperate attempt and tweeted, ”REVOLTING. @ArvindKejriwal‘s protégé Ms Atishi Marlena (named after Marx and Lenin by her parents) – who wanted to change the system and fight against thugs and corruption – advises people to close their eyes and vote for THUGS and GOONS.”

Abandoning the core principles on which the party was formed , Arvind Kejriwal has shifted AAP’s focus on caste based vote bank and strong arm politics, similar to traditional parties like SP, BSP and others. AAP, in trying to emulate politics of SP, BSP and others through caste politics and minority appeasement, is rapidly losing its core voter base. Formed on the basis of its anti-corruption image, praising the same leaders, while sharing the stage with them, AAP was formed against, has not played well for the cadre or the voter base of AAP.
In Delhi, which is the origin of AAP, problems are compounded with constant infighting and alienation of popular leaders like Kumar Vishwas from the party. Voters are disgruntled with the lacklustre performance of the state government. The party’s failed attempt to forge an alliance with Congress in Delhi has also left the party red-faced. AAP, which was created by Arvind Kejriwal on an anti-corruption sentiment against Congress, had to approach the same Congress to save its political ground.
Involvement in ambition driven politics has adversely affected Arvind Kejriwal’s credibility and many experts believe that this election would mark the end of AAP’s political relevance.
