The Chief Minister of West Bengal and Trinamool Congress leader, Mamata Banerjee, has long been accused of using her political clout to settle personal scores. The accusations levied from the opposition usually are fended off by Mamata by calling them a hit job from the Communists and the BJP, but this defense won’t work this time for the accusations this time are from a 1986-batch retired IPS officer who has accused the Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for his decision to end his life, reported My Nation.
Prior to committing suicide, he claimed that Mamata Government had been biased and unfair toward him for his close proximity with communist leaders under whom he served for a 20 long years.
Citing a series of reasons for this drastic step, Dutt alleged, “CM refuses to close my 2 pending (sic) proceeding cases. One case file is lost deliberately by (the) WB government. In the second case, no corruption case could be substantiated. Even DG requested CM, but she refused to close cases. CM is directly responsible for my action of abetment”.
In his death note, he went on to accuse the government of not allowing him leaves, mid-career training, or being sent on deputation. Blaming Mamata Banerjee for holding his finances, the death note further urged, “CM knew that due to non-closure of cases my honest earnings/saving/dues meant for retirement can be blocked forever. So she ordered non-release of gratuity (30 lakhs), commuted dues (25 lakhs), leave salary (17 lakhs) etc. This vindictiveness of CM is unparalleled for blocking my honest hard earned savings”.
Naming the favorite officers of Mamata Banerjee and how they treated him, Dutt said, “The IPS fraternity is such that if the government detests you at a personal level, then all officers toe government line and will treat you like a pariah street dog”. He named Naparajit Mukherjee, RK Johri, HA Safwi, SS Chakraborty who “used, abused and misused” him. All of them are senior officers who, Dutt claimed, “backstabbed” him.
However, this is not the lone case of ill-treatment of IPS officers by the Mamata Government. A few months ago, ex-IPS officer Bharati Ghosh, in an exclusive interview given to India Today accused Mamata Banerjee of trapping her in a false case. Bharati has also alleged that the false cases she had been trapped in were done at the behest of Mamata to stop her from revealing the wrongdoings of Mamata and the TMC. Mamata Banerjee and Bharati Ghosh had been close aides at a time and had worked in tandem to wipe out Maoists and Mamata’s opposition from areas like Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore in West Bengal.
Coming back to the horrific incident of G C Dutt, the death note followed by his suicide has laid bare how Mamata Banerjee had started a witch-hunt against him, his only fault was that he did not agree with the views of the TMC cadre and Mamata Banerjee. Dutt’s accusations lay bare the vengeful politics of TMC and also hint towards how politicians like Mamata misuse power to wipe off opposition. G C Dutt is an example of vendetta politics which Mamata has perfected over the years
