Yesterday, speaking at ‘Jan Aakansha Rally’ in Patna, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that Bihar has become the ‘centre of unemployment’. Rahul in his address promised the ‘central status to Patna University’ in case UPA comes to power.
Taking a dig at PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi said, “What have you done for Patna University? What have you done for the employment of the youths of Bihar?” Congress President added that Nalanda University and Patna University used to be popular all over the globe for providing quality education. “But now, Bihar is no more a centre of education. It is the centre of unemployment,” he added.

However, in what can be called highly offensive rhetoric, he not only has irked the people of the state but also seems to have targeted the state without being aware of facts. Recently, Bihar topped the gross state domestic product (GSDP) growth rankings among 17 largest states of the country. As per a report by rating agency CRISIL, titled ‘States of growth 2.0’, the GSDP of the state grew by 11.3 percent which is highest among 17 states of the non-special category. The study left out the state of Goa only from non-special category given the small size of the state. Bihar is followed by Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat which posted 11.2 percent and 11.1 percent growth respectively.
Bihar for long has been a soft target for politicians. Be it Thackeray in Maharashtra, Mamata in Bengal or Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh, all of them have given heed to regionalism lashing out against Biharis. Not to forget that the north-Indian state contributes a major chunk of labour force to many tier-1 cities. People of Bihar are hard-working and acclimatize with situations without complaining. The intelligence and dedication of Biharis are impeccable and that’s why a large number of aspirants of the Civil Services are from the state.
In the last one and a half decade, the state of Bihar has been led by JD(U)-BJP alliance for most of the time. Under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, the alliance government has performed well on almost every socio-economic indicator, registering the double-digit GDP growth. Earlier, under the rule of Lalu Yadav, Bihar had become symbolic of corruption and ‘Gundaraj’. Nitish Kumar has successfully paddled Bihar on the path of growth freeing it out of the clutches of corrupt leadership.
Also, the public infrastructure of the state has improved significantly with almost every village being connected to the nearest markets through concrete roads. The condition of law and order in the state is well under control with thousands of gangsters and criminals being put behind bars.
Earlier, Bihar was left behind on the economic front because of the mayhem unleashed by previous regimes but now the state finds itself on the path of growth. This growth on the economic front will improve the standard of living in the state and bring it on par with other states of the country.
Moreover, Rahul Gandhi has once again proved that he does not care for facts and went on to denigrate the state and the people of Bihar just for the sake of cheap political gains.
