Opposition parties played dirty politics even over the all-party resolution condemning dastardly terror attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The resolution might not have passed if the changes had not been made in the last paragraph at the insistence of the Trinamool Congress, which received the backing of the Congress and the Samajwadi Party.
The amended version read, “The entire nation speaks in one voice to express its determination to fight these challenges. Today, we stand united in solidarity with our security forces in fighting terrorism and in defending the unity and integrity of the nation.’
Originally, the last line was, “Today we all resolve to stand with our security forces and efforts of the Centre and State Govt to ensure that these challenges are suitably and firmly responded to.”
This was revealed by BJP member Lalitha Kumaramangalam on the show Truth vs Hype on NDTV. An emotional Lalitha Kumaramangalam said, “There are people in this country who are soft when it comes to terror… I don’t want to name names but you want names? I will give you names.”
She also said, “What has Mamata Banerjee done today? She has diluted the statement that was originally prepared. Why? I would like to ask why? I don’t want to make an accusation saying it’s only because of her political ambitions. But many people are saying so and may be they are right.”
She maintained that “dilution” was felt necessary by several non-BJP parties present at the meeting on the all-party resolution chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
According to NDTV report, the phrases such as “challenges are suitable and firmly responded to” preceded by “Central and state government” raised eyebrows because it sounded like a statement of action. The opposition was fine with rest of the draft as it was a statement of intent.
The NDTV report further says that the original last line of the draft resolution on Pulwama felt like a “blank cheque” to the government signed for “any further action”. This phrase “any further action” interpreted in many ways including the possibility of declaring war, imposing emergency or even delay elections. The Trinamool Congress insisted upon removing the “action points”, and parties like Congress and Samajwadi Party also backed the TMC’s demand and finally the last line was altered in the Pulwama resolution.
The country is in shock and callous opposition parties are playing petty politics. It’s time for action and not politics. Political differences can be sorted out later on. At this point in time, national interest should be the priority of all the political parties if they are really pro-India. When it comes to protecting the nation, all the political parties should show unity. But it seems that few leaders are not willing to stand united at difficult times and are busy in scoring cheap political points.
Mamata Banerjee even questioned why a meeting of all parliamentary parties had been called by Rajnath Singh. She said, “Lok Sabha is over. So why parliamentary parties are called?” she said, adding, “There may be some game plan.” Nauseating and disgusting to say the least.
