SP leader, Azam Khan, who is known to make bizarre and shocking comments leading to controversies, has come out with yet another shocking statement. This time around he has made a shocking and insensitive remark about the Pulwama terror attack that resulted in the martyrdom of 44 brave hearts. While the entire nation is in a state of grief and is demanding that a befitting reply be given to Pakistan, SP leader Azam Khan seems to be interested in scoring political brownie points and targeting the Modi government.
At a time when the entire political spectrum across party lines should have stood together in solidarity, Azam Khan has sought to indulge in the political blame game. The SP leader has reportedly said that intelligence agencies across the country are being used for political purposes. He then went on to give the example of investigations against Mamata Banerjee. He also gave the examples of Robert Vadra and Akhilesh Yadav. Therefore, Azam Khan accused the government of the day of indulging in a political witch-hunt and using intelligence agencies for that end. He said that when the government agencies indulge in such political activities, then such bad things are bound to happen. He also argued that the Modi government must take responsibility for this terror attack.
This is really a pathetic statement and one could not have stooped to a lower level at such a critical juncture. It only shows that certain political leaders can never rise above petty political differences and take a firm stand against issues like terrorism that are a threat to national security. Azam Khan also alleged that Mulayam Singh was compelled to such an extent that he was constrained to say something that wiped out his lifelong contribution. This was an obvious reference to Mulayam Singh Yadav’s remark endorsing PM Narendra Modi’s second term. It is clear that Azam Khan is not able to get above the political blame game. And he is still to get over the shock of Mulayam Singh Yadav speaking in praise of PM Modi. For these opportunistic politicians, nothing is more important than criticising and cornering the Modi government. Even if they are required to stand firmly with the government and the security forces, such politicians are adamant on not doing so. It is shameful how Azam Khan chose to politicise the martyrdom of the CRPF soldiers who laid down their lives while protecting this nation.
Azam Khan’s callous remark not only exposes his opportunistic mindset but also brings into focus the level of his ignorance about how the system works. The CRPF soldiers were martyred in a suicide bombing attack in the valley. And Azam Khan is comparing it with investigations being carried out against some people from his fraternity. It must be kept in mind that these investigations are being carried out by investigating and enforcement agencies such as the CBI, the ED and the Income Tax Department. These investigating agencies don’t really have a role in combating terrorism in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. These agencies are doing what they are supposed to do, i.e. carry out investigations into economic offences and book the culprits. This remark by Azam Khan is not only insensitive and shameless but also uninformed and unreasonable.
The nation will not forgive Azam Khan for the shameless statement that he has given. At a time, when the entire nation is on the boil and is demanding revenge, Khan has given a highly irresponsible and insensitive remark. He and his party don’t seem in the mood to apologise for this statement. The nation will anyway be unforgiving towards them.
