2019 opened with two completely off beat, unapologetic movies ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ and ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, which covered topics that would invoke the ire of the so called liberal intelligentsia. Otherwise claiming to be open and progressive, the left liberals completely exposed their dark sides as they left no stone unturned in order to prevent the audiences from flocking to the theaters. From biased reviews, to abusive criticism, you name it and they did it.
However, if we’re anything to go by the box-office collection of the first two days, it seems that their vicious campaign, like ‘Parmanu’, has fallen flat on the face. Not only have the audience massively ignored their rants; they’ve also showered their love and affection on both the movies. If Vicky Kaushal would now ask ‘How’s The Josh?’ the response would be ‘SUPER HIGH SIR!!’
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh has given an extremely delightful picture about the box office collections of Uri and The Accidental Prime Minister as he posted the following tweets:

According to the tweets, Uri has taken a flying start at the box office, with revenue of Rs. 8.20 crores approximately on the opening day.
This has come after Uri massively heckled and abused by left liberal critics, ranging from NDTV to Film Companion to even the notorious left liberal mouthpiece The Wire. While Uri just received abuses, The Accidental Prime Minister had it way worse, with shows disrupted midway, screens torn and theatres vandalized by Congress goons throughout the state of Bengal.
To add insult to injury, everybody, from the critics to even politicians, abused the movie, with Omar Abdullah, Prashant Bhushan, Mamata Bannerjee etc. not only abusing the movie crew, but also mocking the BJP, challenging the makers if they could make one on PM Modi in the same way. Going by the box office collections, it seems that the audience have given the entire left liberal intelligentsia a tight slap for their vicious propaganda, and determined to make both the movies box office hits.
This is so, because according to early trade estimates, Uri has increased its collections by leaps and bounds. Not only have most of the evening shows turned out house full, but also the popularity of this movie, based on the historic surgical strikes, is also exceeding most of the expectations.
Approximately, the movie has earned Rs. 12.43 crores further by the 2nd day, taking the total to Rs. 20.63 crores. Given that the budget of Uri is only Rs. 25 crores, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the film turns out to be a super hit well within the first week of the release itself.
On the other hand, The Accidental Prime Minister is also gaining popularity, despite facing stiff population from Uri and the Rohit Shetty starrer Simmba. The film, which despite the controversy and vandalism earned a total of Rs. 4.5 crores, has earned approximately Rs. 6 crores on the 2nd day, taking the total to approximately Rs. 10.5 crores.
Since the overall budget of this movie is Rs. 30 crores, the film is expected to turn out as a box office success within the first week of the release itself. Moreover, the following week has no big competition, despite the release of ‘Why Cheat India’, ‘Fraud Saiyaan’ etc., so both ‘Uri’ has a golden chance to strike big at the box office, before ‘Manikarnika’ and ‘Thackeray’ take over on 25th January.
It looks like the left-liberals had taken no lessons from the unprecedented success of ‘Parmanu’ and ‘Gold’, and tried their best to deride ‘Uri’ and ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, given that both directly or indirectly were nationalist in their tone, and attacked the Congress governments for their inept attitude. However, the way that the public responded to their challenge is not only phenomenal but also reminds of me a dialogue, ‘Don’t underestimate the power of a common man!’ Besides, ‘Thackeray’, ‘The Tashkent Files’ and ‘Rocketry’ are in waiting to give the liberals a living nightmare.
