In what corroborates the fact that PM Modi’s leadership skills are being recognised all over the world, he received the first-ever Phillip Kotler Presidential award in New Delhi. The award citation states that PM Modi was selected for his “outstanding leadership for the nation and his selfless service towards India, combined with his tireless energy that has resulted in extraordinary economic, social and technological advances in the country.” The award citation also recognises the fact that under PM Modi’s leadership, India is now identified as the centre of innovation and manufacturing (Make in India), as well as a global hub for professional services such as information technology, accounting, and finance.
The award is named after Philip Kotler, who is known as the ‘Father of Modern Marketing’. He is a professor of marketing at Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management. Kotler has authored 60 marketing books, including the bestseller, Principles of Marketing. The 87-year old professor has also written extensively on other fields such as education, environment, government marketing, healthcare, hospitality, and innovation. He also became the first person to receive the “Leader in Marketing Thought” award from the American Marketing Association. Apart from this, Kotler has received 22 honorary degrees in his highly successful career.
The Kotler award has been developed in order to honour people with mastery over fields like marketing and management. It recognises and felicitates organisations, individuals, and marketing team in different industries of around the world. The award also aims to spread the examples of individuals and companies which create an innovative culture for the economic, social and technological advancements of an industry or a country. Last year, Prime Minister Modi received United Nation’s highest environmental honour, ‘Champions of the Earth’ award. PM Modi received the award for his “bold environmental leadership on the global stage.” The UN Environment Programme said, “Under Modi’s leadership, India pledged to eliminate all single-use plastics in the country by 2022. Prime Minister Modi also supports and champions the International Solar Alliance, a global partnership to scale up solar energy.” In 2018, PM Modi had also received the prestigious 2018 Seoul Peace Prize, the award is a recognition of PM Modi’s tireless efforts at improving international cooperation, raising the global economic growth and for accelerating the Human Development of the Indian citizens. The Seoul Peace Prize Committee recognized PM Modi and his government’s contribution in boosting economic growth and reinforcement of democracy through his anti-corruption and social integration efforts. It is, therefore, clear that Prime Minister Modi’s efforts on several fronts are being recognised by the international community in a big way.
