Vijay Ratnakar Gutte’s ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ is having a roller coaster ride ever since the movie trailer officially released online. From brickbats by the left-liberal intelligentsia, to open threats issued by Congress workers, the film has seen it all.
Even when the film released on 11 January, it received no respite in the negative campaign endorsed by the left-liberal intelligentsia. To make matters worse, Congress appointed goons vandalized theaters in many regions of India, even tearing theatre screens if need be.
However, despite all the drama, The Accidental Prime Minister has maintained its sweet run at the box office. Though the collections have dipped a bit as compared to the impressive opening weekend, the film is well within sight of recovering its costs, earning Rs. 20.15 crore by 15 January. This is quite phenomenal, given that the movie budget of the Hindi version is Rs. 22 crores and the versions in Tamil, Telugu, and English are yet to be released.
However, this did not go down well with the left-liberal media and the intellectuals, who had thrown their weight behind the vicious campaign against this movie. Already reeling under the setback of ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ turning out to be a super hit at the box office, they were aghast at the sight of this movie turning out to be a possible box office success, just like Parmanu.
Clueless on how to counter this phenomenon, the left liberals have now resorted to spreading fake news. They’re now circulating articles that are showing misleading revenue about this ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, which is much lesser than the actual box office collection. According to the articles, The Accidental Prime Minister has earned only Rs. 13.90 crores in 4 days all over India, with an opening day collection of Rs. 3.5 crores. In doing so, they have quoted the sources of Bollywood Hungama and Box Office India, which are news websites that focus on the revenue earned by the Indian movies, especially Bollywood during their lifetime.
However, in their enthusiasm, the left-liberals probably forgot that the masses are not exactly that dumb as they perceive them to be. Earnest research exposed the fake news campaign that the likes of The Times of India, The Indian Express and India Today etc. were peddling. While they quoted from the source of Bollywood Hungama, they carefully chose to hide the following information as well:-
In the above link, trade analyst from the Bollywood Hungama Joginder Tuteja himself confirmed that the opening weekend of The Accidental Prime Minister is itself within the ambit of Rs. 15-16 crores, way above the figures mentioned by the left-liberal media. Also, he explained that the opening day collection of the movie was around Rs. 4.5 crores, and not Rs. 3-3.5 crores as said by the left-liberal media. This has been confirmed by celebrated trade analyst and member of Bollywood Hungama Taran Adarsh, who posted the following tweet on the opening day collections:-

To the surprise of many, even the NDTV gave an accurate analysis of The Accidental Prime Minister revenue.
As of now, the net gross of The Accidental Prime Minister is Rs. 17.85 crores as of 15 January and Rs. 20.15 crores as of the total collection worldwide. Given that the total budget of the Hindi version is Rs. 22 crores, and that the Tamil and Telugu will be up by this week, The Accidental Prime Minister is anything but a flop, and this would certainly not go down well with the left liberals.
