Now that ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ has taken the nation by storm, the viewers will now be in for a double surprise. Following the announcements of biopics on major Indian politicians, reports have confirmed that another biopic on PM Narendra Modi is on the cards, where the titular role will be reprised by Vivek Oberoi.
According to Bollywood news website Bollywood Life, reports have been confirmed that a biopic on PM Modi will soon hit the floors the following year. It is confirmed through the same report that Vivek Oberoi will essay the principal role of PM Modi in this movie. This movie is set to be directed by the biopic specialist, Omung Kumar, who has had mixed fortunes with his two biopics ‘Mary Kom’ and ‘Sarbjit’.
This is not the first time that Vivek Oberoi has been roped in for a real-life character. He made his Bollywood debut itself with Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Company’, where his character Chandu was based on the dreaded underworld gangster Chhota Rajan.
He even essayed the role of controversial politician cum muscleman [Bahubali] Parithala Ravi in the ‘Rakht Charitra’ franchise. As such, the role of PM Modi is another illustrious feather in the cap of this talented actor, who has had a rather tumultuous career in Bollywood, despite his brilliance in acting. As of now, he is essaying the role of the antagonist in the Telugu movie Vinaya Vidheya Rama. According to the reports, Vivek Oberoi has even begun adapting himself to the looks and the shape of the character. According to him, this is one of the most challenging roles of his life.
To be honest, this is the season of biopics. As the year is starting on a bang with ‘Uri’, ‘Manikarnika’, ‘Thackeray’ and ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, the regional cinema is not far behind as well, armed up with the much-awaited biopic on the Telugu superstar and famous politician NT Rama Rao.
Besides the above, Akshay Kumar is more than ready with ‘Kesari’, a biopic on the Battle of Saragarhi, as well as ‘Mission Mangal’, based on the mission to Mars. R Madhavan is also sharpening his project ‘Rocketry’, a trilingual movie based on the tumultuous life of S Nambi Narayanan, the man behind the new found successes of ISRO in space research.
This is not all. John Abraham is also up with ‘Batla House’, based on the controversial encounter in 2008 that compelled Congress to peddle the hoax of ‘Saffron terror’. Not many know this, but apart from Ajay Devgn’s much-awaited biopic on Tanaji Malusare, director Raj Kumar Gupta is coming up with ‘India’s Most Wanted’, which will probably essay the journey of nabbing the dreaded terrorist Yasin Bhatkal. Arjun Kapoor is roped in to play one of the intelligence officers assigned with the operation. As such, a biopic on PM Modi will only add to the festivities of 2019.
The movie shall be shot in New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and parts of Uttarakhand. Interestingly, Vivek Oberoi is not the only person to play the role of PM Modi. Famous actor Paresh Rawal is also doing another project, which he is also producing, where he will play the role of PM Modi himself. It would be interesting to see who does the role better as the films hit the theatres later in 2019.
