The Congress party in its desperation to win the upcoming general elections has started to play the victim card. The members of Nehru-Gandhi dynasty have resorted to emotional appeal over the imagined sacrifice of their family in the cause of the nation. Party president, Rahul Gandhi seeks to attract voters by calling himself and people of his constituency-the victims of Modi government. Recently, he complained about the railway projects undergoing in his Lok Sabha constituency, Amethi. However, the Railway Minister replied him with the facts pertaining to the fast-track implementation of the project.
Jitin Prasada, another notorious Congress leader, and a dynast politician has played the victim card in the same manner as Rahul Gandhi often does. Prasada’s father was a prominent Congress leader and had been the vice-president of the party and political advisor to PMs like Rajiv Gandhi and P. V. Narasimha Rao.
Jitin Prasada taking a jibe at the central government over Broad Gauge project in Hargaon tweeted-
“Organized a demonstration to highlight the apathy of the central govt @RailMinIndia for delay in conversion to broad gauge in Hargaon. The 600cr project sanctioned by the Congress govt in 2013 was to completed in 3yrs is still unfinished with substandard work and cost escalation.”

The fact is that the work is still in progress in the broad gauge conversion of Lucknow-Sitapur-Mailani-Pilibhit line. Hargaon is a railway station between Sitapur and Mailani. The project to convert the 262-km long line between Lucknow and Pilibhit from meter gauge to broad gauge is expected to be completed by March 2020. The 88-km line between Lucknow and Sitapur has already been completed. The 106 km line between Sitapur to Mailani is in the advanced stage and expected to be completed by March 2019. The total anticipated cost of the project is Rs.1077 crore. The project once completed will give a boost to connectivity between central Uttar Pradesh and Rohilkhand.
The project at Hargaon suffered and was halted due to the scarcity of funds during the UPA government. The expenditure on the project in 3 years of UPA government stood at Rs.7 crore with no section getting completed. So far, the Modi government has spent Rs.720 crore on the project. The fast-track completion of the broad gauge line is underway and it is set to be commissioned by March 2020.
The Congress party ruled the country for more than 6 decades with power centered in the hands of the Nehru-Gandhi family. The country was not peddled on the path of development and personal greed got prominence. The tweet by Jitin Prasada is suggestive of the fact that he even being aware of the condition of railways under UPA government resorted to the blame game. Now, party president Rahul Gandhi stoops to another low and plays victim card to reap electoral benefits. However, the fact remains clear that majority of Congress leaders even lack basic skills of politics and even forget to get their facts checked before spreading any news or rather a propaganda.
