Anurag Thakur has demanded an apology from the Congress President Rahul Gandhi for misleading the house in a speech he delivered in the Lower House of the Parliament on July 20 during the no-confidence motion debate against the government.
In his notice, Anurag Thakur has maintained that Gandhi’s price comparison of the fighter aircraft with that during the UPA government’s “a figment of imagination, incorrect and utter falsehood” and said “For reasons of national security, the Government of India has not given out the exact details but has already indicated that the price of the basic aircraft being purchased now as per the 2016 agreement is 9% cheaper and the price of the weaponized aircraft is 20% cheaper compared to the price being negotiated by the UPA.” He also said, “A comparative chart of these prices was submitted by the Government of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in a sealed envelope. After perusing the prices as claimed by the Government, the Hon’ble Court noted the submission of the Government that there is a commercial advantage in the prices negotiated in the 2016 deal by NDA Government. The court dismissed the challenge on basis of higher price offer as per the 2007 offer.”
PARLIAMENT:
I filed a notice for BREACH OF PRIVILEGE under rule 223 against Mr Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha for spreading falsehoods and misleading the house during his speech on 20th July.#RafaleLies| @LokSabhaSectt @loksabhatv | pic.twitter.com/U80yizPGGx

Anurag Thakur further added, “Not only are his figures factually false, they fail to take into consideration the impact of the escalation clause contained in the 2007 offer. Further, he falsely attempts to compare an ordinary aircraft -a flying instrument with a weaponised aircraft. Obviously, the cost of the weaponry will be much higher.”
He concluded by saying, “This falsehood has been knowingly uttered by him deliberately because as the President of the Congress Party he knows both from the former Prime Minister and the former Defence Minister, who are also the Members of Parliament, that the figures are factually false.”
After the Supreme Court verdict, the emboldened BJP is on a spree to take on the lies spread by Rahul and company, bringing a privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi for his repeated lies on Rafale is a part of this spree.
On Friday, the SC dismissed all the petitions seeking a court-monitored investigation into the Rafale Deal deal. The Supreme Court observed, “We are satisfied that there is no occasion to doubt the process. A country can’t afford to be underprepared. Not correct for the Court to sit as an appellant authority and scrutinize all aspects.” The bench also said that it is satisfied with the process for procurement, adding that there is a financial advantage in the NDA’s deal.

PM Modi also launched a blistering attack against the Congress over the Rafale issue. He said, “They can speak as many lies as they want, but it does not matter. Congress governments have always been biased against our forces. I want to make it clear that the country will never forget and pardon Congress government’s delay in armed forces’ renovation and modernization.” Referring to the apex court’s verdict on Rafale deal case, PM Modi said that the Congress leveled allegations against him, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and even Supreme Court of lying as the party itself knows “nothing but lies”.
PM Modi also invoked AgustaWestland scam and apparently took a jibe at Sonia Gandhi. He said, “We brought back (alleged AgustaWestland middleman) Christian Michel. We saw how Congress immediately sent in its lawyers on his behalf. We have no Ottavio Quattrocchi or Michel mamas (uncles) to defend.”
