On Monday, the national media reported a statement by Rajinikanth citing that the superstar had expressed strong anti-BJP sentiment. When asked about whether the opposition parties are right about portraying the BJP as ‘dangerous party’ is true, Rajinikanth simply replied that if everybody is saying it then it must be true. However, the statement by the superstar was widely reported by the media as denunciation of PM Modi and a staunch criticism of the BJP.
Today, Rajinikanth clarified his stance on the issue stating that what he meant by the statement was that if the entire opposition is getting together to stop one man, the man must be very powerful. He further added, “Who is powerful? If 10 people are ganging up against one? Imagine who is powerful? You can decide.” In this statement, he clearly stated that PM Modi is stronger than the Mahagathbandhan.
Rajinikanth’s statements come at a time when the rumors are abound about him joining the BJP. He had earlier indicated that he might be willing to join the NDA fold. The frenzied media coverage around his Monday statement should be seen in this context.
The state of Tamil Nadu has always been rough for the BJP and people have always shown faith in Dravidian parties. In such circumstances, it is very difficult for the national parties to win the heart of the Tamilian People. Rajinikanth entered in the political fray at the time when people’s sentiments are pro BJP. Rajinikanth had endorsed Narendra Modi in the past when demonetization was announced and hailed it as a great move against corruption. The time is ripe for BJP to take control of the state politics in Tamil Nadu. The death of Jayalalithaa and M. Karunanidhi has created a void in the both AIADMK and DMK. The BJP president Amit Shah has geared up for the Mission Tamil Nadu 2019 and said “Tamil Nadu figures among the most corrupt states in the country today. When the BJP comes to power here, this corruption in government will end.”
Rajinikanth’s statement has given a straight forward answer to media and to some extent to the Mahagathbandhan that he won’t be supporting them. This is probably the best time for the Rajinikanth and Narendra Modi to fill the vacuum in the politics of Tamil Nadu. This alliance will add power to the campaign of the saffron party.
Rajnikanth has exposed the duplicity of the media and has put his trust in Narendra Modi as a national leader and a great Prime Minister which raises the hope for the BJP in its Mission Tamil Nadu 2019.
