Its official ! On the occasion of Children’s Day in India, two popular actors, Ranveer Singh Bhavnani and Deepika Padukone have solemnized their marriage. In a lavish but secluded wedding where even mobile phones were banned, they married according to both the Sindhi, as well as the Konkani rituals. The wedding was a hush hush affair, with only 40-60 guests invited, and was solemnized at a destination wedding resort, Villa Del Balbianello, near Lake Corno in Italy.
For those unaware, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are a successful acting duo, who have paired successfully in movies like ‘Goliyon ki Rasleela – Ram Leela’, ‘Finding Fanny’ where Ranveer Singh had a special appearance as Deepika’s ill fated groom Gabo, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmaavat’.
The duo was in a relationship for more than 6 years, after they allegedly broke up from their respective partners, actors Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor respectively. They are going through the Sindhi marriage customs today, with the official photographs expected in around a day or two.
Even after such arrangements, the ‘ever inquisitive’ paparazzi has managed to sneak out a few pics, apart from some nuggets of information, such as the entry of Ranveer Singh, the inclusion of singers like Harshdeep Kaur etc., which are going viral on Internet.
Celebrity weddings are a trending topic on social media, with almost every major celebrity involved with the same, even if they’re not directly present at the venue. Even Textiles Minister Smriti Irani couldn’t help but take an innocuous potshot at the buzz on social media about this wedding, as follows :

Like the much publicized wedding of cricketer Virat Kohli and Ranveer’s ‘ex partner’ Anushka Sharma, this wedding too took place in an Italian resort, and not in India. While we are nobody to comment on anyone’s personal choices, we wonder if the Bollywood celebrities are afraid of marrying within Indian boundaries. Why are they ashamed of an Indian wedding? Do we have a dearth of good wedding locations?
Okay, let’s consider the fact that they’re afraid of the paparazzi invading their private ceremonies. So couldn’t they have taken a leaf from the weddings of Telugu actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who married without any fear in Goa, in both the Sanatan and the Christian styles? Yuvraj Singh wasn’t very far from home as well, when he married actress Hazel Keech in Chandigarh.
If India was really a bad location for weddings, why did Heidi Klum, Katy Perry and Russell Brand choose Indian locales for their wedding ceremonies? Even though Heidi Klum was already married to Seal, the couple chose to renew their marriage in the traditional Indian style, as they also visited Varanasi en route their big fat Indian wedding.
Ironically, our so called feminist icon Deepika Padukone had once promoted Indian destinations over the foreign locales in the highly successful rom-com ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ directed by Ayan Mukherjee and released in 2013. If you remember the exchange between the characters of Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor as they tour the location of Udaipur, you will remember how she preferred the Indian locales over the foreign ones.
Now, with her own wedding in a foreign location, it seems that all of those inspiring dialogues were mere talk, and the newly-wed couple is as Indiaphobic as the other elite Bollywood celebrities.
