The elections for the state assemblies of Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram are being conducted today. Millions of voters will be out to decide the fate of their state and vote for their preferred candidate in their respective constituencies. These elections are also termed by some media personnel as a ‘semifinal to 2019’, since the fate of these elections will decide the strength of both the ruling party BJP and the opposition.
However, even before the elections could officially begin, Congress has already started crying foul.
Congress state president P L Punia has alleged that the BJP is trying to change the people’s verdict. Citing the example of Dhamtari district in Chhattisgarh, where three unidentified persons allegedly tried to enter the strong room along with the patwari and tehsildar of the district, he has asked the regional electoral office to file FIRs against the mentioned tehsildar, patwari, as well as the district election officer in this regard.
Remember those kids who refused to consider themselves out during any gully cricket match? From ‘try ball’ to ‘one tip one hand’, they had multiple excuses up their sleeve, just so that the other batsman does not get a chance to show his/her skills. Now it looks like Congress has taken this petty politics to an all new level.
Not only has the Congress accused BJP of using foul means to secure victory, they have also appointed guards to secure the EVMs. Yes, you heard it right. Self appointed Congress guards are ‘protecting the EVMs.’ We’ve heard of bad losers, but going by Congress’ current examples, it looks like they’re just not bad losers, they’re extremely mean losers, who refuse to even consider any loss as an attempt to learn from their mistakes.
If this wasn’t enough, Congress chief in Raipur, Vikas Upadhyay has even tried to justify such absurd exercises. To quote him, “Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh have culminated on November 20 and EVM’s are kept at this government college till the time of counting. We have full faith and confidence on the Central Reserve Police Force personnel but we have heard things about EVM hacking from different parts of the country. There is Bharatiya Janata Party government in both Centre and State so to ensure more safety our party workers are monitoring this place round the clock. There have been instances reported related to EVMs after voting during Karnataka and Gujarat polls have raised doubts, so we are here on guard.”
This is not the first time that the Congress has tried to make a scapegoat out of EVMs. Following the massive drubbing it received in the elections of UP, Uttarakhand etc. Congress vociferously backed the demands of the hysterical AAP supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who called for Election Commission of India to prove that EVMs cannot be hacked.
The experts in shoot and scoot politics that they are, none of the Congressmen actually turned up when the ECI boldly responded to their claims and called for an open hacking contest. Even when BJP barely managed to scrape simple majority in Gujarat, Congress didn’t refrain from stirring the hornet’s nest with their atrocious claims of EVMs being hacked. Have they taken the nation for granted?
As soon as the voting has begun, Congress has resorted to the EVM drama. Are they so sure of losing the elections? It‘s like stopping the dust storm with a broom, and we all know how that ends.
