Hours after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj exposed Pakistan on the issue of terrorism at United Nations General Assembly; a Pakistani helicopter carrying Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) Prime Minister- Raja Farooq Haider Khan- violated the Indian airspace along the Line of Control (LoC) in poonch sector.
Lt-Col Devendra Anand, Ministry of Defence spokesperson based in Jammu confirmed the incident of airspace violation and said, “the air space violation by the Pakistan helicopter was reported in Poonch sector at about 12.10 p.m”.
According to reports Indian troops also fired upon the helicopter but it managed to retreat inside the Pakistani territory. Reuters also quoted PoK PM saying that his helicopter was fired upon by Indian troops.

During 1965 war Pakistan Air force shot an unnamed helicopter carrying the then Gujarat Chief Minister Balwantrai Mehta. Despite the fact that according to the bilateral agreement signed in 1991, a rotary wing aircraft will not fly within 1 km, fixed-wing aircraft (fighters, bombers and reconnaissance planes) within 10 km of airspace of territories of India and Pakistan, the Pakistani helicopter intruded Indian airspace. Having said that it all looks like a deliberate attempt by Pakistan to somehow manage to get the PM of PoK killed at the hands of Indian troops in order to get international sympathy and to precipitate a crisis.
It’s no secret that Pakistan is going through one of their worst phase; its economy is in shambles. The central bank of the country has 10 billion dollars foreign exchange reserve with which imports of only two months could be supported. Pakistan has auctioned buffaloes in order to fill its empty coffers. International aid has also been cut off. USA has maintained string of strict actions and cancelled military aids; which is a huge setback for a failed nation like Pakistan. Domestic conditions of Pakistan are also not well. The businessmen of two key cities- Lahore and Karachi- are fighting among themselves over allocation of CPEC projects.
In such a gloomy scenario, a sudden death of PoK PM would have provided Pakistan with a much-needed help. It would have given Pakistan a chance to attract international sympathy along with aid. Pakistan would have also gained immense success in projecting India in a negative light with respect to Kashmir problem. It would successfully have portrayed India as the aggressor and Pakistan as the innocent. The incident would have further escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. However, their attempt failed just like their nation.
