Hasin Jahan, estranged wife of cricketer Mohammad Shami, joins Congress

Indian team star pacer Mohammad Shami’s estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, in a surprising move, has joined the Congress party. Hasin Jahan had worked as a model prior to her marrying Mohammad Shami. She came into prominence in the recent months when she accused Mohammad Shami of being unfaithful to her. Jahan had also accused Shami of marital rape and of having physically assaulted her on many occasions. According to the latest reports published by news agency ANI, Hasin Jahan has officially joined Congress in an elaborate ceremony conducted under the supervision of controversial Congress leader, Sanjay Nirupam.  The Twitter handle of Mumbai Congress has verified the same, by posting the following tweet:

For those unaware of the feud between Mohammad Shami and his wife, it all began in March, 2018. A day after Mohammad Shami had posted adorable pictures of himself with his wife and his young daughter celebrating the Holi festival in full fervor, Hasin Jahan had surprised one and all with her allegations against Mohammad Shami. Jahan shared screenshots and telephone conversations with the media that allegedly indicated Shami was in an affair with a foreigner.  Apart from this it also highlighted cases which allegedly indicated the cricketer’s involvement with bookies. She had also accused Shami of being a flirt who had relations with countless girls from various cities in India.

Hasin Jahan had also accused Shami’s family of trying to intimidate her with sexual assault and domestic violence. Acting on her accusations, the Kolkata Police had registered a case against Mohammad Shami and his family at the Jadavpur police station. Even the BCCI had to take cognizance of the issue and they temporarily removed Mohammad Shami as a registered player under the central contracts. However, the incessant media trials infuriated the cricketer and he came all out against Hasin Jahan. Armed with evidences, he came out clean on the allegations and accused Hasin of lying on several issues, even when he wasn’t at fault. He exposed most of her lies without breaching any protocol, compelling BCCI to take him back under the central contracts.

Nobody can forget how Shami had stood by Jahan’s side when some self-appointed critics had shamed him for not keeping his wife and his daughter under ‘purdah’.. The incident happened when he had posted some pictures of his daughter’s third birthday. Also, when Shami was trying his best on live television to come out clean on the allegations, an aghast Hasin shot back at him with this shocking statement, “……All of you should have accompanied me to beat Shami. He should be beaten up on the road. How many girls’ life is he going to destroy? He and his family must be arrested.” A classic case of resorting to victim card, isn’t it, Miss Jahan?

As of today, Mohammad Shami and Hasin Jahan are divorced. Hasin had attempted to coerce Shami into providing alimony, which failed when the Alipore Court rejected her pleas, only allowing maintenance for their daughter, Aaira Shami. While nobody should have any objections to Hasin Jahan’s career ambitions  be it in politics or otherwise, it would be interesting to see if she can manage to prove her allegations. There is a serious dearth of leadership and prominent faces in the Congress party at this point of time, roping in Hasin Jahan is a desperate attempt by the Congress. It remains to be seen how successful the partnership of Congress and Hasin Jahan is going to be in the future, as of today, they both have bigger things to worry about.
