At a time when the Congress is desperately trying to corner the BJP government with baseless allegations and made up charges, a disgruntled former Congress leader has come out with revelations that will embarrass the party even more. While Congress was trying to portray an innocuous exchange between fugitive offender Vijay Mallya and Arun Jaitley, Shehzad Poonawalla has revealed something that will send the Congress party in a defensive.
Hours after Vijay Mallya talked about a meeting between him and Arun Jaitley before he turned fugitive, Rahul Gandhi bombarded BJP with the following tweets:
Given Vijay Mallya’s extremely serious allegations in London today, the PM should immediately order an independent probe into the matter. Arun Jaitley should step down as FInance Minister while this probe is underway.

For 2.5 yrs Mr Jaitley has hidden from the public & the investigation agencies the meeting, he now suddenly remembers, in which Mr Mallya told him he was leaving for London. This is enough to make his continuance as FM untenable & disgraceful. #ArunJaitleyStepDown

Replying to the allegations, rebel Congress leader Shehzad Poonawalla dropped a bombshell, accusing Rahul Gandhi of being hand in glove with the fugitives Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi. He alleged that the Congress President had met them in a jewelry exhibition in September 2013, around the same time they were allotted their current outstanding loans, as shown in the tweet:
Mr Rahul Gandhi,I challenge you.I am witness to you meeting Nirav Modi in Sept 2013 at a Hotel and during this time Nirav Modi and his uncle (Mehul Choksi) got loans from banks.I am ready to undergo a lie detector test. Are you ready to take challenge?:Shehzad Poonawalla,Activist pic.twitter.com/Ennv25qFKE

So according to this tweet, not only does Shehzad Poonawalla apparently knows about the details of that meeting, he has also accepted to undergo a lie detector test if challenged. Shehzad Poonawalla has also challenged Rahul Gandhi to prove his allegations wrong, if he can. The tussle now takes an interesting turn.
While some may laugh this off as just another attempt to pass the buck, they’re clearly forgetting the origins of this guy. He was sidelined by his own party just because he dared to challenge the authority of the Congress President Rahul Gandhi, as he was elected without any due process. If Shehzad’s allegations are true, this means that the nexus between the scamsters and the Congress Party leaders went right to the top.
Interestingly, one couldn’t help but be amused as to the desperation Congress is resorting to prove that an innocuous exchange between Vijay Mallya and Arun Jaitley, whose timeline is still not revealed to anyone, is a solid proof of Jaitley’s complicity in Mallya’s escape to London.
Curiously enough, most of the scams, be it by Nirav Modi, or Vijay Mallya, or even Lalit Modi for example, were committed under the benevolence of Congress rule and BJP is being castigated just because they managed to discover the dirty secrets within a year or two of their tenure. Since most of the allegations are not backed by credible evidence, one tends to wonder if Congress has started taking tuition classes from Arvind Kejriwal for shoot and scoot politics.
Truth be told, Shehzad Poonawalla has put the Congress on backfoot with his revelations about Nirav Modi and Rahul Gandhi. If the Congress doesn’t come out with any credible evidence to prove him wrong, they shall be a laughing stock around the Indian political circle. But if they accept his allegations, they’ll lose credibility within the Mahagathbandhan itself.
