Come mid September and a festival of celebrities and wannabe celebrities’ starts on the Indian Television, precisely the twisted reality show Bigg Boss on Colors television. The 12th season of Bigg Boss started yesterday on the 16th of September and the celebrity list is already making heads turn. Ex-cricketer and controversial character S Sreesanth coupled with lots of television actors are set to begin the almost 4 month long routine of fighting, abusing and backstabbing each other with the start of Bigg Boss. The most controversial pair however, as it turns out, is the pair of noted Bhajan singer Anup Jalota and his love interest Jasleen Matharu. The 65 year old singer is allegedly in a relationship with his 28 year old student and co-performer and this is something which is making people lose their heads. Some have gone on to challenge their relationship and have even given reports that their relationship is just an attempt to make the headlines. While it is absolutely deplorable if that is the case but if not then shouldn’t the two be left alone? An even better solution would be to leave the complete show alone.
Anup Jalota is a well-recognised figure in the Indian musical scene, attacking him for having a relationship with someone who is an adult and has her own discretion is alarming. Yes, there is a significant age gap between Anup Jalota and Jasleen Matharu but why should it matter to anyone else? Anup Jalota is a celebrity in his own right and has enjoyed success and continues to enjoy a fan following in the country, Jasleen Matharu is the lesser known between the two and by a tall margin. If a 65 year old, 3 time formerly married and 2 time divorcee and one time widower finally finds true love, shouldn’t he be left alone to enjoy his share in private? But Anup Jalota did exactly the opposite by coming to the Bigg Boss house; perhaps he secretly believed that people do not watch the reality show anymore. Wrong! as it turns out, half the country is doing just that, with free internet and lots of free time comes a lot of responsibility, creating a meme and trolling someone is a task which the Bigg Boss viewers have taken on their shoulders. True, that the two make an unusual couple but in India, yesterday’s unique is today’s normal and perhaps that is what will happen to this couple’s woes as well.
As far as the relationship between two people goes Anup Jalota and Jasleen Matharu have every right to continue their love affair without worrying about what the people have to say. We as Indians are known for poking our nose into others affairs. The whole reality show business in India thrives because we love seeing other people lose their calm and fight. Anup Jalota and his lady love, if they really are a couple, need to brace themselves up for the incoming jibes and comments that will continue in days to come as Indians prove they are Indians by watching more of Bigg Boss. Social media is a scary place more so if you are at the receiving end, in more ways than one it is good that the two are going to be cut off from the outside world for a few days.
