Speculations regarding social media platforms being pro-left and of helping the left winger organisations by drowning the voices of the far right have always been doing the rounds. Twitter, in particular has been accused of doing the same for a prolonged period of time. There have also been accusations of ‘shadow-banning’ levied on Twitter, shadow-banning is the practise of blocking a user or his content to the other users of the same social media platform. Shadow banning was initially used to stop frauds and to avoid confrontations on social media platforms, but of late the social media websites have switched to use this as a tool to drown the voices of right wing members. Republican Party leaders from the United States have been quite vocal about Twitter using unfair means to hide their followers from accessing their content. Jack Dorsey, Twitter CEO in an interview given to CNN Sunday has agreed to the fact that his employees are mostly left-leaning but then tried to make up for it by saying that Twitter does not indulge in shadow banning.
Twitter has come under severe fire from right wing organisations for suspending known right leaning voices on its platform, political bias has been the reason cited for such acts by the company. The micro blogging site CEO Jack Dorsey did say that the discourses which surround tweets which are political in nature are more enraging in nature than the ones surrounding topics like music or sports. His assent to the fact that the number of left leaning employees of Twitter far outnumber the neutral or right leaning ones is a proof that Twitter has indeed been indulging in shadow banning. If not by banning the right leaning accounts then certainly by drowning their content and curtailing its reach on the platforms through shadow banning.
The acknowledgement of this is a worrisome fact for the world as a whole since it means that the arguments or counter-arguments done by the right leaning voices are not given proper space. It also infringes on the right to free speech which most of the democratic countries like India and USA proclaim. Social media platforms had in fact gained prominence owing to their ability to organise and motivate large groups of people without any interference from the government or a third party. Twitter’s methods hence infringe on these rights and it is indeed a worrying fact that such practices are being used by social media websites.
The left and its ideologies are dying a slow death today all over the world; masses have become disillusioned with the ideas of the left and are slowly turning their heads away from the left based parties. This has led to setting up of the panic mode in the leftist cabal and it seems they are willing to stoop down to any level to regain lost grounds. The conservative parties from around the world need to come together to defend their rights on social media platforms. It is important for them to do so at this point of time so that people can be made aware of the evil games being played by the leftist cabal and to save the right for their voices to be heard on social media platforms such as Twitter.
