The National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue has become a bone of contention between the opposition and the government. The opposition is extremely unhappy with the NRC exercise because they have apprehensions that just before the 2019 General Elections, they will end up losing their 40 lakh voters in the process. After losing each and every argument on the NRC issue, now the opposition is employing the humanity card to save their 40 lakh voters. The coteries of opposition working in Media, academia and foreign funded NGOs have reduced down the debate to law versus humanity. No sane minded person should pay any heed to such bogus narratives because the people who are spreading the narrative that India should grant instant citizenship to all the illegal immigrants on the basis of humanity, don’t have any skin in the game.
It’s the local population and the common folk who are going to suffer because of the presence of illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in the country and not the intellectuals sitting in their AC rooms and passing inane commentaries on humanity. The difficulties faced by the people of the North-eastern states due to the influx of a large number of Bangladeshis include the loss of employment and business opportunities. These accompanied with the destruction of the natural resources, balance of the society and local culture due to the ever-increasing burden of illegal Bangladeshis. 40 lakh is a massive number and a sizeable percentage of Assam’s population.
The senior BJP leader and the Rajya Sabha MP, Subramanian Swamy has come up with a novel suggestion. His logic is flawless. The premise of his argument is the partition of India during which people decided their fate and future home. Swamy said, “India should tell B’Desh: “Take your people back who are illegally in India or give us back in proportion our land we gave to you in 1947 to settle Muslims who did not want to live in India then.” He also said, “The partition was on the basis, originally the English created partition for two countries, a Muslim ruled Pakistan and a Hindu ruled India but that Congress party was the representative and they said no ‘we will have a secular government’ and those Muslims who wants to stay in India, they can stay in India, so a certain proportion stayed in India.” Swamy further added, “Now those who went to Pakistan and Bangladesh, now want to come back to India, then why did we have a partition at all? So, if you want to continue with the partition then people who have come illegally to India that proportion we should get in the land back because it is our land. We gave it so that Muslims can stay there now Muslims want to stay in India so the land also must be taken back.”
Subramanian Swamy’s suggestion is an ideal one. It is unfair that after dividing the land on the basis of religion, a large chunk wants to jump the fence and wants to permanently settle down in India.
Therefore, Swamy has suggested that on humanitarian grounds if the Indian government cannot kick out illegal immigrants then Bangladesh should provide India with the land to house these people.
The illegal Bangladeshis are consuming the resources of the country and what does India get in return? Nothing. Therefore, if the Bangladesh government refuses to accept its citizens who have illegally crossed the border and consuming the resources of India then it should provide India with land to house these people. The government must seriously consider this proposal Swamy.
