West Bengal’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dilip Ghosh on Monday said that if the party is voted to power in the state there would be National Register of Citizens (NRC) published in West Bengal too. The NRC according to the party president will be published on the lines of the one which has recently been published in Assam. Ghosh further went on to add that the opposition parties which are dissenting with the publication of the NRC draft in Assam are “shedding crocodile tears” over the loss of their “vote banks”. Dilip Ghosh told reporters, “If we (BJP) are voted to power in Bengal, then we too will implement the NRC in the state. We will send back the illegal immigrants to Bangladesh. Tough days are ahead, we will not tolerate any illegal immigrants in Bengal,” He also went on to add that the people who support the illegal immigrants too would be thrown out of the country by the BJP government. The NRC draft published in Assam included 2.89 crore names of the total 3.29 crore applicants from the state.
Ghosh also defended the move by the centre and state BJP leadership in Assam to bring out the final draft of the NRC. Ghosh said, “The NRC in Assam is being implemented following the orders of the court (Supreme Court). It was the Congress, which had proposed the idea of the NRC. Now they are speaking against it,” Ghosh added.
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee who had taken the maximum possible benefits out of the illegal immigrants vote banks would definitely feel anguished after hearing statements like these. A great part of her forces which unleash terror before every election are comprised of people drawn from the ranks of illegal immigrants. Her win ability today depends on the votes which she can draw from the illegal immigrants and the minority vote banks now that the mask of her being development oriented is off. In fact back till 2005 when Mamata wasn’t in power in Bengal she had actively been anti- illegal immigrants, her stance gradually changed since she learned how to turn these illegal refugees into vote banks for her party. Her changed stance shows her greed for power, for which she is ready to make Indians second grade citizens in India. She had even issued a statement where she warned of an impending ‘bloodbath’ and ‘civil war’ in the country due to the NRC draft published in Assam.
BJP state president Ghosh also criticized Mamata and accused her of threatening the ‘integrity and security of the country”. Ghosh said, “Those who are inviting illegal immigrants and Rohingyas from the neighbouring country should not talk much about the integrity and security of the country,”
These statements issued by the BJP president will help the party in gaining more votes in the upcoming elections. The Bengali population is disgruntled with the influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in their state. Along with Assam West Bengal shares the brunt of the illegal Bangladeshi problem in the country. Leaders like Mamata Banerjee have further elevated the problems by trying to make them naturalized citizens of the country. The people of Bengal are tired of bearing the load of these moochers on their land and resources. It is also why BJP has made many successful inroads in the state as became evident by the results of the Panchayat polls where inspite of the violence by TMC cadres BJP emerged as the second largest party. Mamata Banerjee will have to risk pissing off the entire indigenous population of West Bengal if she chooses to side with the illegal immigrants. Even then she loses the risk of losing all credibility at the national level and her hopes of being a PM nominee will be razed to the ground. BJP on the other hand must keep up the good work it has done in Assam and fulfill its promises of bringing out the NRC when it is elected in West Bengal.
