The Congress social media cell led by the Congress IT head, Divya Spandana held an anti-bullying workshop aimed at targeting trolls active on social media. The hypocrisy of the session was that even though it ostensibly attacked bullying and online trolls, those who were invited as speakers in the workshop are some of the biggest trolls active in today’s time.
The first speaker was Barkha Dutt. Believe it or not, Congress openly invited the NDTV journalist clearly establishing a link between the Congress and the controversial media house. Barkha Dutt stated that “the mob is big and intimidating but the only way to fight them is to stay true to yourself. Don’t be afraid of the pressure to fit in, always be an individual”. It is laughable how Barkha Dutt who had justified the biggest genocide ever in India’s history, the 1989 Kashmiri Pandits genocide is now showing concern about mob lynching and giving sermons about how to tackle it.

Another speaker for the anti-bullying workshop was Gurmehar Kaur who had forced a 19 year old to delete his memes and whose mentor, Ram Subramanian is one of the biggest abusers and trolls active on social media in today’s time. Ram Subramanian spares no one and has been caught red handed abusing the prime minister in the past. In one of his tweets, he even called for throwing out the state of Uttar Pradesh out of India and even called it a cancer for the country. These bootlickers of the Congress seem to hate every state which votes against the “secular” equations or patterns. It seemed more like an illustration of how the entire ecosystem works in connivance rather than a session condemning anti-bullying.

The next speaker at the Congress workshop was Sanjay Rajoura. The same person who uses his Twitter handle for hurling abuses at Brahmins and Rajuputs without being instigated in any manner. This casteist troll was invited by the Congress for condemning abusive content. At the workshop, this troll acted superficially and tried to sound like a Lutyens’ intellectual. He stated that the day you start questioning people and stop doing unscientific things, you would have come over trolling. What he said and what he does in real life tell completely different stories.

The Congress also invited Talish Ray to speak at the event. Congress should have thought twice before inviting a woman who speaks frequently about sexual harassment on workplace. In fact, there have been many cases of sexual harassment that have been reported within the Congress. Even the NSUI president, Fairoz Khan was recently in limelight after complaint of sexual harassment against him by a woman working in the Chhattisgarh team. In another case, a Congress Social Media cell female member alleged harassment at the hands of a colleague and even alleged that Divya Spandana, the head of Congress IT cell turned a blind eye.
It is clear that the INC does not have a uniform standard as far as trolling is concerned. It categorises trolls as good trolls and bad trolls going by their political inclinations. If someone abuses the other side, Congress treats them as “intellectuals” and invites them to anti-bullying sessions. But when it faces the same treatment, it starts categorising them as trolls and bullies.
