Tamil Nadu government has finally cracked down on the fringe elements who incited the Tuticorin sterlite protest, which took 13 innocent lives and over a 100 injured. It has been revealed that anti-social fringe elements belonging to fringe political groups were involved in the Tuticorin violence. In particular, cadre of the Naam Tamilar Party, formed by Tamil movie director Seeman, is facing the heat. The police on Friday has arrested party’s organiser Vinayarasu on the charges of setting the employees quarters of UK based Vedanta’s Sterlite copper plant in Thoothukudi.
Earlier this week one cadre of Naam Tamilar was arrested on the charges of assaulting the police during a protest against an Indian Primer League (IPL) match which was held at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Founder of Naam Tamilar Group, Sebastian Seeman is not just a fringe element but also a Hindu hater. He infact made several derogatory remarks against Hindu gods and goddesses. His inflammatory attracts IPC sections 153-B, 295-A and 298 for hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindus.
There are many other such fringe and anti-social elements parties who spread venom in the society. Some of them are believed to have strong separatist tendencies and also got the support of separatist Yasin Malik who is known to be responsible for the exodus of Kashmiri pandits and wants secession of Kashmir from India.
Yasin Malik, chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation front, recently in a gathering of members of Naam Tamilar, pro-LTTE outfits, supported the demand for separate Tamil Eelam on the eve of the death anniversary of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran at a marriage hall in Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu. He also said that the Tamil Eelam is the goal of each and every Tamil person.
The Tamil police removed the posters of LTTE outfit Naam Tamilar at the Manjakuppam grounds after the permission to hold a public protest was taken back. But the fringe outfit quickly shifted the venue to the marriage hall. There Yasin gave a provocative speech and attacked the Tamil government ans also the Sri Lankan government.
The Police also denied permission to Naam Tamilar to take out a rally to observe the remembrance day on the death anniversary of Prabhakaran. After the involvement of Naam Tamilar cadres in Tuticorin protest has been revealed this fringe organization is facing the heat of the Tamil Nadu government.
This action by the government to crack the whip on such elements is commendable. They have no place in our political discourse. Such organization who carry out violence under the pretext of protest should not be tolerated at all. Problem in Tuticorin started when these anti-social elements hijacked a peaceful sterlite protest. As Rajnikanth rightly observed and called a spade a spade. He said, ” the entire problem started after anti-social elements attacked police & burned down Collector’s office, as a result peaceful protesters were killed. If there is going to be protests for every issue, Tamil Nadu will turn into a graveyard (sic)”.
