The dream of ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ is one step closer to reality, it seems. The fringe Muslim leader, Asaduddin Owaisi, has declared that the Congress is finished. This is a huge setback to the dreams of Congress of forming a strong anti-BJP alliance. Mamata Banerjee and KCR have already made their positions very clear regarding united opposition. They want to form a federal front which would be both anti-BJP and anti-Congress. This remark of Owaisi has come after the former President Pranab Mukherjee attended the RSS event in Nagpur. In his statement, Owaisi stated that, “Congress is finished. A man who spent 50 years in Congress & was President of India visited RSS headquarters. Do you still have hopes from this party?”
It’s a bad news for the Congress that even a person like Owaisi is undermining their capability and doubting their strength. The Congress party and the Asaduddin Owaisi have previously shared a cordial relation with each other. They have been allies for many years. Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM started contesting election of its own very late. Another common thing which brought them together is that their hatred against the BJP.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s party is one of the most communal parties of India which portrays itself as secular front like every other communal outfit. His statement is surprising because if there is going to be United opposition against the BJP then his party is going to stand with the united opposition in which, most probably, Congress would also be there. But it looks like that he is also not willing to contest the election under the leadership of rapidly declining Congress party. Owaisi, in fact, said there is a need of alternate to BJP other than the Congress. He sounds similar to KCR and Mamata. After Mamta and KCR, Owaisi is coming out as another rebel. No one wants to be associated with the sinking ship of the Congress.
However, his allegations against the Congress are indeed true. If their stalwart leader can go to attend RSS event, it shows that a party which calls RSS communal and accuses it of spreading terror and levels other such vague accusation against RSS has fallen politically. Its accusations do not hold any water when the thoughts of Mohan Bhagwat and its tallest leader Pranab Mukherjee are almost similar. Owaisi also ranted against the Pranab Mukherjee and made baseless accusation against the RSS. He stated that, ” We would like to tell Pranab Mukherjee, RSS, BJP, Congress, India and Hindu secular brethren that when Nathuram Godse shot Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel had written that RSS people were celebrating.” It’s quite ironical that a foul mouthed fringe person issuing certificate to Pranab Mukherjee and RSS.
What is very clear from this episode is that the regional parties unwilling to trust the Congress party. United opposition is falling like house of cards even before its formation. Current Congress party which treats RSS like untouchable now itself has become untouchable to its coalition partners. With each passing day, the Congress is getting weaker and the BJP is getting stronger.
