According to a latest News18 report, Fairoz Khan, National President of Congress student wing National Students Union of India (NSUI) has been accused of sexual exploitation. A NSUI member from Bhilai, Chhattisgarh has accused Fairoz Khan of sexually exploiting her. The NSUI has set up an inquiry committee to investigate the allegations.
According to the report, the victim is from Bhilai and she has complained about the matter to the senior Congress’ leaders. The report claims that last month, the victim attended the NSUI national convention held in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Allegedly, Fairoz Khan sexually exploited the girl during the same NSUI national convention.
However, National in Charge of NSUI, Ruchi Gupta has said that no complaint has been made to the organization regarding this issue. The organization has got the cognizance of the matter through the media itself. Even then the matter is really serious that is why the committee has been set up to investigate the matter. Once the committee submits its report then only any decision on this matter can be made.
This is not the first incident where charges of sexual molestation have been leveled against a Congress leader. Earlier in 2013, a congress leader from Assam, Bikram Singh Brahma, was arrested for allegedly raping a married woman. According to a police official, Mr. Brahma “maintained friendly relations” with the woman he allegedly raped, and had even promised her a high post in the Congress party.
In July 2017, Congress MLA from Kerala M. Vincent was arrested for sexual harassment and stalking a 51 year old woman. In Bihar, Congress leader Brijesh Pandey, brother of controversial journalist Ravish Kumar Pandey, was accused of running a sex racket and molesting a minor dalit girl.
Congress leader of Babu lal Nagar was accused of sexually exploiting and raping a 35 year old woman in 2013. He promised to arrange a government job for her and then continuously sexually assaulted her. He later had to resigned from the cabinet minister post.
Veteran Congress leader and the former Rajya Sabha Speaker faced charges in a case of serial rape of a 16-year-old girl in Kerala in 1996. In 2016, a congress leader, Shivanand Hulyalkar, from the Pune was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his 23 year old employee. In 2013, Haryana cabinet minister Gopal Kanda was charged with rape and unnatural sex with a former air hostess. He was also accused of abetting her to suicide. Later Kanda was forced to resign from the cabinet post. And the list goes on …
Not just cases of sexual assaults. Sex-CD of one of the Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi was talk of the town when it went viral on social media in 2012. Allegedly, people appreciated his skills in the video and tried similar maneuvers. It is also said that it was a small contribution from the side of Manu Singhvi ji to contribute to the digitalization of India.
It is high time Congress President should take strict measures against his ministers so that this kind of heinous crime doesn’t happen again. Also, the justice system needs to take rape/sexual harrasment more seriously.
