Maharashtra police last week arrested Rona Wilson, Surendra Gadling, Mahesh Raut, Shoma Sen and Sudhir Dhawle over Bhima-Koregaon riots that broke out in January 2018 that shook entire Maharashtra. The arrest of these alleged top Urban Maoists operatives followed making shocking revelations. In police investigation the link between the Congress and Maoists were exposed.

Further investigations revealed that Maoists were planning to assassinate PM Modi in a Rajiv Gandhi type of assassination by targeting PM Modi’s road-shows.

Now there has been another shocking revelation. One of the key suspected Maoists, Mahesh Raut arrested by Maharashtra Police was given a clean chit by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh when he was the minister. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh once said that Naxalism is the biggest security threat to the country. But it looks like that his minister compromised with the peace and security of the country.

This gives a solid proof of established link between the Urban Naxals and the Congress. Earlier, in the seized letter written by a senior Maoist to one of his comrades where it was mentioned that the Congress party is ready to provide support to the planned Dalit movements through Jignesh Mevani. His mention in the letter throws light on how the Dalit protests and violence which occurred in Bhima-Koregaon in Maharashtra went on for so long.

Mahesh Raut is former Prime Minister’s rural development fellow who was working in Maoist hotbed, Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. In 2013, he was arrested by Maharashtra police in suspect link with the Maoists. He was arrested under terror charges by Pune Police. Way back in 2013, C-60 police team raided and took into custody two suspected Naxals in Kovunwarsi village in Etapalli Tehsil, Mahesh Raut was also present there. Police questioned him about his presence and then later released him. Later on, Police detained him and questioned him again.  The investigation was on process but the then Union Minister Jairam Ramesh jumped the gun and interfered into the investigation. On 28th June 2013, he wrote a letter to Maharashtra government requesting them to bring the issue to an end. Mahesh Raut is now the prime suspect in inciting January 2018 Bhima-Koregaon violence. Jairam Ramesh said that he has done his own independent inquiry, “I independently inquired into the allegations through reliable sources.” In the last paragraph of the letter, Jairam Ramesh writes, “Mahesh Raut should be allowed to continue working in Gadchiroli and the collector may be directed to provide all necessary support.”

Jairam Ramesh’s letter giving the man a clean chit even before the investigation is what is believed to have led the authorities to stop any further inquiries.

This shows how much the Congress party is concerned about the National security of the country. If the investigation had been conducted properly Mahesh Raut and his likes would have been behind the bars and Bhima-Koregaon violence and other violent protests using Dalits as a pawn would not have happened. It also shows the hypocrisy of the Congress party leaders. On May 28, 2013, Jairam Ramesh said Maoists are terrorists  and they should not be romanticized. He said this in an interview about the Naxal attack in Darbha Valley on 25th May 2013 in which 27 people including many Congress leaders were killed.

Jairam Ramesh’s letter also raises several questions on what basis Jairam Ramesh gave that letter? Who were his reliable sources? Was he even aware of the facts or was he trying to save someone?  Whatever the truth is, there should be proper investigation and all the culprits who compromised with the safety and the security of the country should be given severe punishment. Security, peace & harmony in a country  should never be tampered with.
