It seems like that the BJP is about to lose one of their star-campaigners. Rightlog had reported earlier that the Congress Party’s decisions were being taken by Sonia and Priyanka, and that the President Rahul was nowhere in the picture. Now, it has been confirmed by senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid that Priyanka Vadra will play an important role in 2019 General Elections. There was a lot of speculation about this earlier as well. Many Congress leaders and workers since 2014 have pointed out that Priyanka Vadra could be better suited for the role of the Congress President than Rahul Gandhi. Voices have been raised in her favour by the vote banks of the Congress as well.
Rahul Gandhi has proven to be a complete failure as a politician and is not an acceptable face for the people or for potential allies like West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party has faced many electoral defeats. He has remained consistent in losing elections. He has proven to be no match to the charisma of PM Modi. Influence of PM Modi is growing countrywide and on the other hand, Rahul Gandhi’s influence is decreasing within his own party. There are growing voices of dissent against him within the Congress. Many leaders in the Congress are not happy with the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and do not see him as the potential personality to run the affairs of the party.
Senior Congress leader, Salman Khurshid in an interview with Dainik Bhaskar has said: “Priyanka Gandhi is a game changer as she has a big role behind the curtain.” He hinted that she has been working behind the curtain in Rae Bareilly and Amethi but her role was hitherto limited but now ahead of 2019 General Elections, she will play a larger role. It means that Rahul Gandhi has been completely sidelined by his party. He might end up accusing RSS for this as well. Salman Khurshid, in his interview, also disclosed that there is a loss of faith in Rahul Gandhi’s leadership capacity. Their loss of faith in Rahul Gandhi’s command is obvious after losing so many elections under his leadership. Many leaders are leaving Congress en masse including big names such as Narayan Rao Rane and Shankarsinh Vaghela. Left-liberal Intelligentsia which used to roam around Congress only is also frustrated with the present leadership.
Khurshid has also given other insights, like the reason Congress was reduced to 44 seats. He says it was because of minority appeasement. It is perhaps because of that reason that Khurshid recently told a gathering that party’s hands are stained “with the blood of Muslims”. It also explains Rahul’s excessive temple run.
On the occasion of HD Kumaraswamy’s swearing-in-ceremony, all the political rivals gathered on a common stage to show the unity and strength of the opposition and form an anti-Modi alliance. In one of the staged pictures of the event, all the leaders can be seen standing in a line raising their hands up. In the picture, the centre-stage is occupied by the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Mayawati. Rahul Gandhi who had expressed his desire to become next PM is not in the Centre. So this picture is an indication of what Salman Khurshid is saying. Possibilities are there that Rahul Gandhi will be completely sidelined by the party before the 2019 General elections.
