Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and many other states in India have faced the wrath of the armed Naxals for many years in a row. The gun totting murderers waving their red flags have caused havoc for far too long. Spilling blood and destruction of property under the garb of bringing a revolution and protecting the rights of tribal population has been the modus operandi of the Naxals. Almost all the governments in the past have tried to combat and put an end to the Naxal crisis in India. The Communist and other leftist parties coupled with their urban Naxals (eminent scholars, professors and media groups) have tried to discourage the government’s advances against the Naxal movement from time to time. PM Narendra Modi led central government has decided to clamp down on the Naxal issue ever since it came in power. Specially trained security forces were deployed by the BJP government to strike at the core of the Naxal stronghold. And it has started showing results. This, however, infuriated the urban Naxals like Nandini Sundar, wife of The Wire founder Siddharth Varadrajan, who have started shedding tears for their comrades.
Nandini Sundar is a professor of sociology at the Delhi School of Economics and is married to the founding editor of The Wire Siddharth Varadarajan. While The Wire (very un-ironically) claims to be a platform for independent and unbiased journalism in the country, Nandini Sundar claims to be a fighter on the behalf of the tribe population of the country. Nandini Sundar is known for spewing venom against the government which have tried to curb the Naxal movement in India. She was even booked for a tribal man’s murder in 2016.
The anti-Naxal drive by the security forces under the command of the Union Home Ministry and the state police departments have achieved a big breakthrough this year. More than 70 Naxals have been killed in anti-Naxal operations this year alone while many others have surrendered. The most recent blow to the Naxals happened on the 22nd of April when more than 37 Naxals were gunned down by the forces in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. This terrible blow to the Naxals and their sympathisers was too much for Nandini Sundar. She took to twitter to voice her concern for her fallen brothers with a tweet which mentioned her sadness caused “by the deaths of Maoists in Gadchiroli.”
I am deeply saddened by the deaths of the Maoists in Gadchiroli as I am saddened by the deaths of the security forces who are fighting them. This senseless war must come to an end. If the Govt can talk to Nagas, why not to Maoists. The adivasis of India need peace.

This is definitely not the first time she has shed tears and lent her support to her comrades in arms. Her activities in the Maoist and Naxal dominated jungle areas of Chhattisgarh have been highly suspicious. She also moved to the Court against the Salwa-Judum movement of Chhattisgarh which had enabled the local population to fight against the Naxals with arms. Her rants against the government’s move to end Naxal terror have also come in public eyes many times in the past.
If you are hearing about Nandini Sundar for the first time in your life, learn about how she as an intellectual and liberal face of the society plays the victim card on Naxal terrorists’ behalf from time to time. Her ‘sympathy’ for the “deaths of the security forces” is nothing but a farce. No tribal, security personnel lives matter to her and her ilk. Their only concern is the survival of their failed ideology which has been shunned by the rest of the world. One should also be aware of how seemingly innocuous looking people like Nandini Sundar can be Naxal supporters and undercover workers for terrorists working in distant tribal areas. Learn and remember the destructive capacity of people who have too much belief in a violent ideology. While her husband runs the dangerously leftist mouthpiece, The Wire, Nandini Sundar continues to support her husband in anti-India activities by undermining the valiant efforts of our security forces.
