Samajwadi Party was once a major force in UP and had gained massive mandate riding on Akhilesh Yadav’s new-found popularity. After forming a govt in 2012, the party was reduced to an irrelevant entity owing to BJP’s stupendous performance in last year’s assembly elections. As CM Yogi took charge, SP has become a nonentity in the state polity. And they are trying different ways and means to gather attention. From illogical rants of Azam Khan to Akhilesh Yadav’s forced criticisms, the party is making all attempts to stay alive in the state politics. Their attack on the Governor of Uttar Pradesh is yet another attempt at it, and a shameful one at that.
In the first budget session of the assembly, the opposition led by Samajwadi Party members resorted to violent methods to disrupt the proceeding. As Governor Naik highlighted achievements of the Yogi govt in his address, he was unceremoniously attacked by paper rockets and missiles.
As the Marshals tried to shield him from this ruckus, Samajwadi Party members intensified their shameless aggression. And this was just one aspect to their unruly behavior. The opposition even subscribed to other forms of hooliganism and sloganeering to disrupt Governor’s inaugural customary address to the house which gave a new dimension to stall the session.
Sporting caps of different colours and carrying placards, Samajwadi Party members intensified their stir to impede Governor Naik’s speech. Despite robust security, multicolored balloons too were smuggled inside the assembly and released in the air which may have threatened their own security. Two Samajwadi Party members even entered the house by garlanding themselves with potatoes as a mark of protest to highlight the condition of the potato growers. There is no doubt that an irrelevant Samajwadi Party needed attention and diversion from any serious business taking place on the floor of the assembly. And this is not the first time they have ascribed to such a behavior. However, on this occasion, they engaged themselves in novel ways to bring the house into disrepute. This attitude of the Samajwadi Party members clearly was to gain spotlight in the midst of an outstanding governance by CM Yogi in less than a year.
Unfazed by the lack of a civilized approach from the opposition, Governor Naik continued his speech in the midst of chaotic scenes inside the assembly. CM Yogi condemned this irresponsible attitude of SP and was categorically stern in warning the opposition. CM Yogi asserted that Governor’s arrival in any legislature is an accomplishment and described Samajwadi Party’s behavior as rude, unethical and termed their use of abusive language as vulgar and condemnable.
CM Yogi had an excellent hold over the state and was proficient in maintaining law and order by enforcing crackdown on many elements. Be it the anti-Romeo squads or taking on different kinds of Mafia or even giving a free hand to the police in engaging with the criminals, CM Yogi has taken phenomenal efforts to improve law and order situation in the state. These chaotic scenes in the assembly too will be addressed by the CM and stringent measures will be taken to curb them in future. Indiscipline and lack of respect for ethos or laws will not be tolerated given CM Yogi’s personal track record of governance.
Whilst, PM Modi is making visionary plans of a new India in 2022, parties like SP want to reroute the nation in to medieval times and their ruckus in the assembly just symbolized this character. In a world where news get transferred and highlighted at a net lightning speed, these images of the assembly will go far and wide to bring a bad name for the state and the country. After securing a great mandate, CM Yogi is doing everything to transform UP into a developed state. Nevertheless, the opposition especially marginalized players such as SP fear extinction and is employing such tactics to raise its ugly head and gather attention. It is high time before CM Yogi takes action and sets another example of his seriousness in projecting a healthy no-nonsense administration.
