Worst Movies 2017

2017 proved out to be one of Bollywood’s most disastrous years, both economically and in terms of the quality of movies made this year. While there were occassional good ones like Jolly LLB 2, The Ghazi Attack, Anaarkali of Aarah, Naam Shabana, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Newton, Hindi Medium, Bareilly Ki Barfi and Raag Desh, the list of bad ones was never-ending. This year saw the release of forgettable flicks like Noor, Munna Michael, Commando 2, A Gentleman, Raabta, Haseena Parkar, Chef etc.

Here, in this article we will discuss the 4 worst “Big” Movies of 2017 that left the audience traumatized.

1. Tubelight:

First in our list of the Worst Movies of 2017 is Tubelight. The sob story of two brothers (Salman and Sohail Khan) set during the Sino-Indian war of 1962 turned out to be a ridiculous concoction of love and emotions. Tubelight turned out to be a forced experiment where the effort to garner sympathy for the lead (Salman) suffering from a rare disease was on your face. It’s a hit formula and has been replicated in movies like Sadma, Pa, Guzaarish and more recently Barfi, but the plot falls on its head in this movie. Also, Salman’s front row fans had nothing to cheer for in this movie. No Munni Badnam, No six pack show, Salman wasn’t beating any Chhedi Singhs to Pulp in this movie either. This was like Sylvester Stallone trying to Pull a Daniel Day-Lewis.

And hence, For the first time since 2012, the magical duo of Salman Khan and Kabir Khan failed to set the cash registers ringing. Tubelight failed to impress the audience and turned out to be a box office disaster.

2. Raees:

Worst Movies 2017

Second in our list of the Worst Movies of 2017 is Raees. Gangster films are a great thing, or rather they can be. At the least we expect them to give us a sneak peek into a world that we will never see. At their best they show us the mind of a criminal. It’s pretty easy to take a step further, and try to justify crime and evil, and that’s where many average attempts go. Raees, well, it’s even worse. Raees was based on a real life villain Abdul Latif – A gangster who had a mutually beneficial relationship with the ruling party of 80s and kept Ahmedabad in line for them using violence and fear. The movie lionizes the villain, it presents him as a secular businessman philanthropist who is immensely popular and never hurts anyone who doesn’t hurt him first. Logic is unimportant in Raees as it is intended to please only front-benchers.

Raees wasn’t just a badly made movie but was a bad message to the society as well. A generation of people will now grow up believing now that Latif was actually a great man.

Raees wasn’t exactly a box office success, it wriggled to somehow make some money for its producers thereby raising the question again – Is the era of Shah Rukh actually over?

3. Half Girlfriend:

Worst Movies 2017

Third in our list of the Worst Movies of 2017 is Half Girlfriend. Chetan Bhagat is a terrible writer who writes terrible books, Half Girlfriend was his most terrible book till date, but the movie rights of his book were sold even before the Book’s release. Isn’t that wonderful. Half-Girlfriend generalises a lot of things, and clearly paints a very bad picture of Bihar, and Bihari guys, even after lecturing a lot on Bihar’s past achievements, The acting is terrible, accents even more terrible, with an exception of Vikrant Masse. Dialogues are outright BAD, but what can be expected from the adaptation of an English novel which has this dialogue “Deti hai toh de, warna kat le”.

If Half-Girlfriend is to be believed, Patna is so small that you keep bumping into people. Every house in Patna is at the banks of Ganga. There are VFX fireworks in Patna skies all the time. New York is so small that you can actually run from one end of it to another (using Google Maps). Everyone in USA understands Hindi. Rich people of Delhi only speak in English and rich girls sing alone when they are really sad. You can start singing in Delhi and random foreigners will come out of nowhere and start clapping. You can chase a girl all your life and still be hailed as a social reformer and get to deliver speech at the UN. Also, Bill Gates is a .psd file.

4. Jab Harry Met Sejal

Last (but definitely not the least) in our list of the Worst Movies of 2017 is Jab Harry Met Sejal. Forget Sejal and Harry, when Imtiaz met Shahrukh, disaster happened. This movie redefined clichés. Gujaratis are too Gujarati. O maai Goad level Gujaratis. Punjabis are too Punjabi. Raula Pai Jaana ai level Punjabis. The plot is so kiddish that you feel like walking out of the hall once you realize that this is the main plot. This movie presents girls as another level of naïve. Consider this, Anushka keeps staring at pole dancers, strippers (and hookers) and asks Shahrukh – ye Layak hai? Ye to Bohot Layak hai (Is she suitable? She is super suitable). Here the suitability of being sexually appealing to a man is being discussed. Yeah, you read that right. Anushka can’t differentiate a strip bar from a regular bar, Shahrukh keeps getting flashes of wait-for-it his Sarso-ke-khet-waala-pind in Punjab, which he left for a reason, not properly described in the movie.

The movie was a disaster and one of the biggest flops in Shahrukh Khan’s career.

If you simply wish to see some stunning locations in Europe, Jab Harry Met Sejal will be a great watch for you. But we personally recommend Fox Traveler.
