So, Justice prevailed finally. “நீதி வென்றுள்ளது”, Kanimozhi declared emphatically. The ancient ethos of Bharat Varsha were upheld by correctly interpreting the laws by the learned Judges with ample support from the CBI that has tried to prove the innocence of the accused.
And, like that all the 2G Scam accused are innocent. Vinod Rai is now being questioned for his miscalculations about ₹1.76 Lac Crores loss to the exchequer.
Second time in the history, India has contributed ‘Zero’ to the world – of scams. The integrity of Manmohan Singh is proved, and so is his control over the UPA cabinet. This verdict has dispelled all rumors about the lack of control Manmohan exercised over his cabinet. A Raja is now the ‘poor Dalit’ who was tortured by the Brahminical administration India has.
Of course, whether the court shall renew all licenses Raja issued that were cancelled in 2011 is still not clear. They may not be renewed citing procedural impossibilities. Anyway, there are some collateral damages for which these politicians were ready. DMK will go to polls claiming how they were victimized by the CAG headed by CAG. They may even demand a separate CAG to deal with Tamilians. Dayanidhi Maran was already acquitted long ago and what the court decided to do with the 200 lines telephone exchange set up at his house was not known. Even Karthi Chidambaram may be let off soon.
We did see the same happening in Bofors. We will see it in many other cases. Vyapam scam is also being investigated for nearly two decades and I think the junior officer who started his career in Vyapam would retire before the case is concluded.
Next, it may be Jaganmohan Reddy who would be declared innocent by our courts – citing lack of evidence collected and submitted to the judiciary. He would again go on another ‘Odarpu Yatra’ or ‘Consolation Tour’ shedding tears that would move empathetic voters – only to claim power in Andhra Pradesh.
And, the most touted Coal Scam that may continue for another decade considering the larger number of litigants involved. What would happen to the companies that lost money as the court cancelled all mining licenses is anybody’s guess.
As Shekhar Gupta put it, India has lost a decade and a lot of money that was spent by CBI investigating the 2G Scam case. In fact, he is correct, and I agree with him. If the end result is going to be ZERO, why the hell one should spend time and money on any issue. I am sure, in the changed political environment, even his mentor Arun Shourie would agree with his pupil. Arun Shourie may even accept he was wrong when the paper he controlled once, blamed Rajiv Gandhi, in fact he should give the title “Mr Clean” to the long dead politician.
I am waiting Arvind Kejriwal to declare there were no wrongdoings in Common Wealth Games too. He may wish a happy retirement life to Sheila Dixit. After all, India did win some medals in that particular event and is now continuously winning medals in many international events. Will he go an extra mile and apologize to Arun Jaitley for blaming him unnecessarily? I doubt this one.
Crux is that the Supreme Court had cancelled licenses in both 2G and Coal Scam related allocations. If cancellation of spectrum licenses resulted in temporary difficulties to businesses houses, users were burdened permanently. Auctions for coal simply killed the power sector and heavy manufacturing industry. In fact, the job of judiciary is to punish the accused if they are found guilty and not to pass interim orders that may not withstand judicial scrutiny at a later date. Everyone knows even auctions can be and are manipulated. What purpose it would serve to auction them?
Can the courts re-allocate cancelled licenses to companies? No. Will those who now claim, “Justice Prevailed” file cases for defamation against Vinod Rai and other journalists who had exposed the 2G Scam? After all, A Raja spent some time in prison because of the 2G Scam. Will Congress party seek apology from the judiciary for tarnishing the clean image of Manmohan Singh by cancelling licenses of spectrum and mining? No. Nothing would happen. People are taken for a ride by one and all.
After all, if our investigative agency cannot complete investigation in Asaram Bapu’s case in years, can common Indian expect high level culprits to be punished? Huh…
When Mayawati cancelled all recruitments in Police department that happened during Mulayam’s recruitment, there was no enquiry; she simply recruited new ones. Maybe she thought to save some money. Devendra Fadnavis might have thought in the same way and hence the enquiry in irrigation scam has not progressed. Finally, even after conviction Lalu Prasad Yadav continue to remain on bail controlling Bihar politics, does the conviction matter? No.
It is time to prefix our national slogan “Satyameva Jayate” with the first letter of the English Language. I remember Sunny Deol’s dialogue: Band karo ye natak!
