United Arab Emirates is indeed one of the most prosperous countries in the World. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed was the honorable guest for the 68th Republic Day Celebration in India. And his arrival came with many good developments for Indians. Apart from the friendly gestures, firm handshakes and series of hugs with PM Narendra Modi, this visit to India was both beneficial as well as an occasion to strengthen the bonds for both the countries.
PM Modi’s Efforts
This started with Modi’s visit to UAE in August 2015. After Indira Gandhi, Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit UAE in 34 years. Modi knows the importance of UAE as an ally. As Pakistan’s relation with UAE are on a decline, Modi grabbed the opportunity and he certainly has mastered this art! He quickly visited UAE and convinced the Business Leaders to invest in India. He also influenced UAE to support India’s permanent position in the UN Security Council along with many other things. Most importantly, he made sure that India and UAE join hands for the betterment of World.
How UAE reciprocated
When Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed visited India in February 2016, they signed various agreements on Nuclear Energy, Oil, Information Technology, Aerospace and Railways, and with that came billions of dollars of investment by UAE in India. Apart from the trade relations, the overall bonhomie between India and UAE stand improved as well. That showed when UAE offered land to build a Temple. And of course, when Burj Khalifa adorned the shades of Indian tricolor.
The Pakistan Angle
With India’s improving relations with UAE, Pakistan stands badly bruised. UAE was a good ally for them. But Pakistan is notorious for making people repent their trust. On the other hand, India has been a good manpower provider for UAE since a very long time. And Indian diaspora has made its strong impact in the UAE.
The Road Ahead:
For India, UAE is the second largest provider of Crude Oil. And for UAE, India is the sixth largest destination for its Crude Oil. The bilateral ties in between India and UAE have improved with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both the countries have also joined hands against terrorism which translates to Pakistan. UAE is no more a safe zone for Daud and his property. And they’re also going to help India to investigate against him and other criminals for whom the country used to be safe havens.
Conclusion:
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed was an extremely intelligent choice as the chief guest at the Republic Day because his being in India serves three purposes. Enhancing Investments in India, Strengthening and safeguarding the Indians in UAE and of course cornering Pakistan.
