Medals for the soldiers who killed Burhan Wani: A remarkable decision indeed

26 January 2017: India was celebrating its 68th year of turning into a full-fledged, SOVEREIGN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC with the rare distinction of introducing our Braveheart NSG commandos as a glorious part of the Republic Day Parade. On the other hand, in a series of felicitations to soldiers of the various armed forces for their valor in various battlefields, three soldiers of Rashtriya Rifles, a mixed regiment of the choicest of soldiers in the Indian Army, were awarded Sena Medal.

FOR WHAT?

8th July 2016, Friday – The day, when the face of Kashmiri terror, Burhan Muzaffar Wani got a death he truly deserved. Fun fact, Burhan was an unexpected bonus for our joint force of armament, paramilitary personnel, and state cops: they had gone to kill some Sartaj Aziz for his actions, and they found Burhan Wani as well.

Following were the army personnel from the crack team involved in killing Burhan Wani, who literally put their lives on stake to bring down the dreaded trader of terror:-

This is not the end. Along with the above warriors, the troops of No. 4 & No. 9 Special Para Forces, who had participated in the famous surgical strike last year, were awarded the higher peacetime gallantry medals. 10 of the soldiers were awarded Shaurya Chakras, while the commanding officers of the same units were awarded the Yudh Seva Medals.

Along with the above, many were surprised, as well as delighted, when they heard of Lance Naik B. Hanumanthappa, who had braved the onslaught of the deadly avalanche in Siachen for six days before succumbing to his injuries, was awarded with a Sena Medal posthumously.

But what is the purpose of rewarding the three crack members of the Rashtriya Rifles for killing Burhan Wani? To tell the truth, there’s more to this reward than what meets the eye.

The reward is a cold, and straight forward message, both to the region of Kashmir Valley and the rest of India. To Kashmir Valley, the reward indicates a major shift in the mood of India: no glorification of terrorists anymore.

We already suffered for the actions of UPA I & II in glorifying separatists like Aasiya Andrabi, and terrorists like Ishrat Jahan, Bada Sajid for their nefarious plans for years. Rewarding Burhan Wani’s killers sends out an indication: only those who fight for the nation will be rewarded, not those fighting AGAINST THE NATION.

The fight to clean Kashmir Valley and the rest of Pakistan imperialized Kashmir is a long road ahead, but in rewarding those, who gave a tit for tat to the merciless terrorists, we are glad that the right steps are taken. From conducting surgical strikes thereon, to making sure that the exiled Kashmiri Pandit refugees return to their homeland, even if in clusters, the journey has just begun. Let’s just hope Kashmir doesn’t fall into wrong hands once again.

For the rest of India, especially those, who are the backbone of the Islamic terrorism modules operating in India, i.e. the mainstream liberals and intellectual terrorists, the reward sends a strong warning to them as well: the present system of Indian governance is not going to tolerate any sort of malice, whether directed as terrorism , as prevalent  in Kashmir Valley and Maoist infested areas in the central and eastern India, or in the form of pseudo secularism and anarchy, as the SP Congress alliance is hell bent on doing in Uttar Pradesh, and Aam Aadmi Party is doing in the rest of India, ignoring their own bastion of Delhi callously.

To sum up, the rewards to the officers involved in these path breaking moments of Indian governance have not just come at the spur of the moment; the message behind it is equally deep and scathing. No doubt there is freedom of speech and expression, but in no way, does it permit you to spread terror and anarchy in the name of the same. I wish the soldiers were awarded more generously, but given the intention behind the rewards, I would say the end of terrorism in India has begun, and I do hope to see India join the illustrious club of terror proof nations, comprising the likes of Israel, Japan and Russia, with pride, one day.
