Validating the “ Religion of Peace ” Claim

Another day, another terrorist attack and another occasion when the regressive left vehemently asserts that Islamic Terrorism has nothing to do with Islam and that Islamic scriptures advocate unparalleled love for every human being on the planet when evidently that is not the case.

But Islam is a religion of peace

The claim that ‘Islam is a religion of peace,’ flies on the face of reality and in recent times has become another tool in the hands of politicians pandering to Muslims for votes. The claim has become just another means through which people assert their moral superiority over others. People love to assert their moral superiority and they love to appear ‘non-judgmental’, ‘open-minded’ and ‘tolerant’. If the cost of asserting their moral superiority is overlooking facts and ignoring logic, it’s a price they’re gladly willing to pay.

Contrary to popular ‘Intellectual’ mandate, Islamic Scriptures are littered with quotes and passages which advocate violence towards non-believers and call for war against ‘Kaffirs’. One particular quote, that is repeatedly twisted to suit the liberal narrative, claims that the death of one innocent person is equal to the death of all of humanity in the eyes of Allah. But there is a loophole, ‘innocent’ is a subjective label and according to Islam, homosexuals are not innocent, atheists are not innocent, Kaffirs are not innocent and thus their lives hardly matter.

Those who don’t understand the Koran, kill

‘Intellectuals’ are of the opinion that poverty and illiteracy, not ideology, is the root cause of Islamic Terrorism. It’s Intellectual hypocrisy and a pathetic attempt to assert their ‘Intellectual superiority’ that prompts intellectuals to make such an assertion. One feels such intellectuals are motivated more by a determination to differ from the popular opinion than an actual quest for truth and reason. The theory which flies on the face of reason is staunchly promoted by Intellectuals of a certain political inclination in spite of the ever increasing pile of evidence to the contrary. Such intellectuals are of the opinion, ‘We must lead the way for the unwashed masses. If the masses aren’t convinced, it’s because they’re ignorant.’ Such intellectuals cannot even fathom that they might be on the wrong side of facts and logic, more and more of them are awakening from their Kumbhakarna slumber every day, hopefully, all of them will wake up before it’s too late.

All Monotheistic Religions were once religions of peace

All monotheistic religions have a certain taste for violence in varying degrees. Over the years, Christianity and Judaism have undergone radical reformation and managed to shed their violent tendencies to adopt a more tolerant approach towards coexistence. Islam, however, has been largely immune to reformation and whenever a reformation has occurred, it has been more often than not a victory for the fundamentalist section of the population. To assert that ‘Islam is a religion of peace’ is to be in denial of reality.

Liberals and Muslims often like to say, “Terrorists kill Muslims too!” However, it doesn’t make them any less Islamic. It’s primarily because of two reasons. Firstly, Shias don’t recognize Sunnis as ‘True Muslims’, Sunnis don’t recognize Shias as ‘True Muslims’, both of them don’t recognize Ahmedias as ‘True Muslims’, Sectarian violence is rampant in Islam and as such if Terrorists kill Muslims of a different sect, they’re only killing people they perceive to be their enemies. Secondly, if Terrorists end up killing ‘True Muslims’, their deaths are rationalized as collateral damage and supreme sacrifice in the service of Allah. Thus, according to them, the ‘True Muslim’ will be in paradise after their sacrifice and they have actually done them a great service.

But let’s discuss other terror types?

Liberals often conflate the seriousness of Islamic Terrorism with ‘Christian Terrorism’ and ‘Saffron Terror.’ Quite obviously, the last couple of terms were coined by liberals to deflect attention from the major issue at hand and further their narrative that all Religions are equal when all evidence suggests that in the 21st century, that is certainly not the case. Islam has a monopoly over Global Terrorism, Boko Haram in Africa, ISIS in the Middle East, Al-Qaeda and Taliban in the Indian subcontinent and these are just four names among dozens. There is no other religion in the 21st century which advocates endless wars and violence to establish its own religious hegemony. There is no religion in the 21st century which justifies the murder of cartoonists which mock their religious figures. And to say, the general behavior of the majority of the Islamic Population has nothing to do with Islamic scriptures is monstrously ignorant.

Politicians worldwide seem to be living under the delusion that if we give in to the demands of the Islamic community one last time, then we may finally get them to be more open to reformation. When Indian politicians like Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal prance around in traditional Muslim attires for political mileage, the fundamentalist components of the community see it as a victory that Allah has granted them and the preachers see it as another opportunity to make another demand as they know that for votes, the Secular politicians will stoop to any level.

What’s the solution then?

We are soon reaching the end of the line. The Radicalization of the Muslim youth and homegrown terror is an ever increasing threat to our security. If we do not confront the violence that inherently lies at the core of Islam, we will never provide the incentive that the Islamic community requires to reform their faith. We undermine the efforts of liberal Muslims like Maajid Nawaz to reform their faith when we claim Islam is a religion of peace and undermined the horror that ex-Muslims had to endure for their lack of faith. Even after years of asserting that Islam is a Religion of Peace and appeasing the fundamentalist sections of the community at every step, the threat of Islamic Terrorism is greater than ever. Unless we confront the problem at the core of the issue, hundreds of precious lives will continue to be killed and murdered and all for the sake of Islam.
