As #DelhiMangeBijli movement gathers steam, Sun god’s relentless assault continues. Sun God has been extra generous this summer. And Delhi, the national capital has found its name right on the top of his generosity list. Simply put, it’s hot as hell here. Our Fellow Columnist and Admin Jayesh Sharma beautifully puts it as:
Even the shampoo was warm. The shower was lukewarm no matter how much I turned the mixer towards cold. The bathroom floor was warm too. It’s just 7 in the morning, how could everything heat up so fast?
Although he stays in Raipur, every word of his stands equally true for Delhi. So what do people turn to in such a situation? Their ACs, or Coolers. But, what if people are denied of cooling themselves off in the sweltering Delhi summers? It’s Carnage. And it is carnage indeed in Delhi. Frequent and long power cuts in Delhi, have made good night’s sleep, a thing of the past. I stay in the Dwarka area of New Delhi and my case is no different. Every day, after a long tiring day at office, I was (and still am) greeted by frequent power cuts at ungodly hours. Almost everyone at my workplace turns up with under eye bags and unkempt hair testifying another night wasted in the balcony. A citizen movement was the need of the hour.
Hence we started the #DelhiMangeBijli trend on Twitter. The idea was simple. Collect complaints from different parts of the state and post about it on the social media. I was appalled to see how every nook and corner of Delhi was affected by this power cut menace. Complaints poured in from Malviya Nagar, West patel nagar, Lodhi Road, Sonia Bihar – Karawal Nagar, Chattarpur, Dilshad Colony, Badarpur, Yadav Park In Nangloi, Old Rajinder Nagar, Wazirabad, Mahavir Enclave, Mehrauli, Dwarka Sector 22, Dwarka Mor, Dwarka Sector 9, Saidulajab Area,Saket, South Ex-1, Govindpuri, Vikaspuri Area, Lajpat Nagar., Uttam Nagar, Nangal Raya, D Block Janakpuri, Paschim Vihar, Raghu Nagar, Dwarka Mor, Paschim Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Malviya Nagar, Duggal Colony, Khanpur, Sri Niwas Puri, Uttam Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Khanpur Extension, West Sagarpur, East Vinod Nagar and CR Park.
We also asked people if they had any message for the Delhi Government.
This is how they responded:
Jayesh Batra from Malviya Nagar says: Don’t advertise yourself in all other states. Please focus on Delhi, we have voted you to power. Don’t disturb the PM, He is doing a good job unlike you #DelhiMangeBijli
Paras Sharma from Lodhi Road says will try my best to educate people who i work with or who work for me and tell them to never vote for AAP again. I live in an area where power cuts never happen – This is NDMC area – never in the 26 years of my life have i experienced power cuts so we dont have an inverter, neither do many people living in the area. But now i will have to buy an inverter. Cherry on top : The slum area where the maids/drivers stay in lodhi road – gets power !! They dont even pay bills for that power and Kejri waives them off. #NeverVoteForAap , #DelhiMaangeBijli
Abhinav Sharma from Saidulajab Area,Saket says I’m a student having exam on 27th May but due to these power cut I can’t study neither sleep properly. And Please Mr.Kejriwal Concentrate only on Delhi then on all over India. #DelhiMangeBijli
Kakoli Das from Laxmi Nagar says From the time, they have started ruling Delhi, this is what is happening.. We face power cut problems, dirty water problems (even Aquaguard fails to purify it) and what not.. Next time i know whom to vote for, bcoz this government knows only to put allegations on the opposition party and nothing else. #DelhiMangeBijli
Likewise, everyone who participated in #DelhiMangeBijli Citizen Movement had a message for the government. Needless to say, none of them were appreciative of them.
#DelhiMangeBijli is a people’s movement. Sponsored trends start and end everyday on twitter because they never really connect with people. The trends created by people’s frustration and anger stay forever.
This is should serve as a warning for Kejriwal. Delhi’s patience is running out.
Here are some of the tweets:
