A Bihari responds to Nitish Kumar ‘s Open letter to Narendra Modi

Respected Nitish Kumar ji,

I went through your open letter to Narendra Modi. I liked it. It was just like you, cheeky, sarcastic and pointless. I liked the fact that you successfully played the victim card, bragged about culture and made Biharis feel like the step son of India. You have been doing this since a very long time and happen to be a pro at it. Well as far as I am concerned, I happen to be a Bihari as well, hence I feel obligated to respond to this letter. I have italicized your statements, you can find my response in Blue!

Few days back, while addressing a public rally in Bihar, a comment was made by you about my DNA. The issue has been troubling many of us since then. Now, as you are scheduled to visit the state again, I am writing to you on behalf of those who have felt hurt by your statement. Your words have been taken as an insult by a large section of the people of the state and beyond. Most of us also feel that coming from you, the comment is rather unbecoming of the office you hold.

Nitish Kumar Ji, In strict biological terms DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic acid, a molecule that carries most of the genetic instructions used in the development, functioning and reproduction of all known living organisms. In political terminology however, it refers to the inherent traits of a person or a group (if explicitly mentioned). Since Biharis as a group weren’t mentioned explicitly by Modi in the aforementioned Rally, hence there is no reason why a large section of people of Bihar would take a jibe against YOUR DNA as a personal insult unless they are your disciples, party workers, loyal fan boys or sycophants. I must remind you that Narendra Modi was in Patna for promoting his party of which you are a sworn adversary (you started it). In Election campaigning, jibing is a mundane affair, a seasoned politician like you must understand this.

But, this is not the first time that we have faced this. Earlier as well, your colleague and BJP leader, Mr. Nitin Gadkari had said that “casteism is in the DNA of Bihar”. Interestingly, these are the same people who reposed their faith in you and contributed towards electing you to the highest office of the country with an overwhelming majority. Ours is the same state that has been the cradle of civilization and has given birth to some of the greatest icons in history. Needless to say, when such statements are made, it weakens the collective faith of people in your leadership.

Very smart Nitish Kumar Ji, quoting Gadkari in this letter is very smart. Since your letter is intended at the sole purpose of infuriating Biharis, let me get this very straight. You failed. Gadkari already clarified that he meant the political DNA. And if anyone is to be blamed for the rampant casteism in the state, it is people like yourself and Lalu Prasad Yadav who reduced the bright Biharis to Agda, Pichda, Yadav, Muslim and others. Why do you always project a secular image of yours – for Muslim votes. Why did you create Mahadalit category – For Dalit votes. In the disguise of social engineering, you are dividing an already divided state and you accuse others of jibing at Bihar’s political DNA. Everyone knows that Bihar has a rich culture and a great history, but the point is what did you do with it? Did you make it a tourist hotspot? No? A cultural hub? No. An Education hub? No.

I am a son of Bihar. My DNA is similar as that of the people of Bihar. Modiji, as you know, my father was a freedom fighter and my mother an ordinary housewife. I grew up in a humble household in rural Bihar. In my 40 years of public life, I have tried to work for the betterment of people following the ideals of Gandhi, Lohia and JP. Most of us feel that these statements, beyond questioning my own descent, have disrespected the lineage of our people and have denigrated the great legacy of the state. This also gives credence to the feeling that perhaps you and your party hold a prejudice against the people of Bihar. I wonder how come the gravity of such statements repeatedly misses your alert conscience.

Nitish Kumar Ji, I am a son of Bihar too and I am not to sure about the DNA but yes I share the same problems that an ordinary Bihari faces. I am away from home from last 14 years because higher education in Bihar is in complete shambles. There are no jobs. I got my engineering degree from another state and currently I am slogging at a Multi-National Company in The National Capital Region because there are no jobs in my home state. And I do not wish to discuss about health and sanitation, infrastructure, law and order etc. at all otherwise this reply would turn into a bitter rant. Yes I hold a lot of prejudices too but against the government of Bihar. You were my last hope but you demolished my sand citadels and hence I am more vitriolic than ever.

Therefore, through this letter, I take the liberty to urge you to please consider taking back these words. I have no doubt that this gesture of yours would go a long way in assuaging the sentiments of the people and would further enhance the respect people have for you.

Nitish Kumar Ji, Through this letter I am doing the same and I urge you to stop being a hypocrite and talk about development of Bihar. Hear this loud and clear from a Bihari, You have broken the hearts of young and educated Biharis like me by partnering with Lalu. We voted you to power last time, we’ll vote you out of power this time.

Yours Truly,

Atul Kumar Mishra

Not to be taken seriously… CM Nitish, you are following the principle of Gandhiji, Lohia and JP?? How?? When did they abused Lalu-Rabri sarkar to be in chair?? And when did they shifted their butts aside to adjust them once again on the same chair for the fear of losing it, that too in just two terms? Must be a sarcasm by Nitish or a copied dialogue or as most other politicians repeats the universally accepted cheer words !!

I am also a nomadic Bihari running away from home for last 18 years, still searching for a better career prospects! The environment which Bihar govts gave 25 years before Nitish is still haunting several regions in the forms of rebellions or Maoists. Then, Nitish came as a hope. But his self proclaimed supremacy for being better than Modi and becoming a PM hindered him from being true to himself, from being a better Nithish. Hence, hopes of many shattered. I don’t question his instance on opposing Modi but I question his choice of not being Nitish himself.

just like indira gandhi, now Nitish kumar has started having ego – that He is synonymous to Bihar.
Criticism of Nitish kumar has been converted by him – as of criticism of bihar. But people of that state understand this man’s cleverness.
This man’s political DNA is of deceit , backstabbing, distrust.
As lalu yadav had earlier said – ” aisaa koi sagaa nahi , nitish ne jisko thagaa nahi”
This man got vote from bihar voters by asking vote against RJD gundaraj, and later shook his hands with lalu. He is the biggest cheater of masses.

Ummid tut jaye to kuchh nahi bachta. It is clear from your post that aap chahte hi nahi ho ki kendriya sarkar kuchh kare, aap central govt. ke hathon se achha kaam hone hi nahi dena chahte. It is a shame for people like you.Even i feel, whoever in power, they should develop the state like tripura, west bengal, bihar or kerala or delhi..The thing is that some people are capable of running country well and some are designated to run the state well. If both of them changes their priorities , then there is bound to be misgovernance and breakdown.

Like you Mr. Mishra, I too left Bihar for UK in 1970 soon after getting my MBBS degree. Things were not that bad in 1960s, there were jobs too for us. What made me disembark was the way medicine was practised and the plight of doctors in block hospitals. Working in NHS has been professionally fulfilling, financially rewarding. Money never came between doctor and patient. Now retired, financially well off thank my star for my emigration.
There are two most deadly and ominous “Grah”, known as Raahu and Ketu. It is Bihar’s misfortune that these two has joined forces in the form of Laaloo Yadav and Nitish Kumar, one is Raahu, another is Ketu. But I don’t blame them. I blame Bihari voters who vote for them over and over again. Having destroyed education system to its core, Biharis are now half educated of illiterate. Such a mind is incapable of thinking. And that is how these two curse of Bihar play on their mind and get their votes.
We hope Biharis in Bihar will have some sense and come November election, will send these two and their likes to political oblivion.

Its the JP Movement to be blamed for the education collapse in Bihar. And, if you take the pain of going back a little in the history, you will figure out that people from one particular caste benefited maximum post independence and gained employment in the Sachivalaya. Also, if you get to visit Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Management, from the chairman to the peon belonged to one particular caste. Its much easier to blame casteism on Laloo and Nitish, but the roots were sown much earlier post independence. Since, you are based in UK and I hope well qualified, was expecting you to be rationale in your thoughts but unfortunately you are not. Sad and I pity you.

Nitish Kumar seriously underestimates the intelligence of Biharis if he thinks they will fall for his emotional blackmail. I am confident that Biharis will vote well. If not a full majority, at least NDA will be close (not like Delhi).

Mishraji, you are not at all eligible to comment on this letter who stays outside bihar since last 14 years and did not see the difference in bihar during last 10 years. Bihar has now every kind of institutions be it iit, aims, cimp etc where good minds of country are studying. Now days are gone where people feel ashamed when they termed as bihari. Bihar has a fundamental problem of land reform where most of higher caste people have possesion and lower caste are still landless labourer. Thats why naxalism emerged here in bihar. So please reserve your comments with yourself when you dont know about fundamental problems like land rights, caste, employment etc.

OK… What about the “Joint Venture” of RJD and JD(U)… Moreover supporting the same “Congress” Party who divided the entire country since its Independence… I am not supporting any Political Party my friend and would urge you not to do the same… A bihari never says that he is not proud of being a Bihari… I have lived in Maharastra for 3 years recently… There is a large population of Biharis who are still living in Bihar and Proudly use the term “Bihari” whenever asked about their Native Place… I mean, how can you be friends on Political stage with a person whome you have criticized all through your life… Once you hated his governance (which everybdy do) and now you are fighting election with the same party… What kind of Bullshit is it… ??? It does not mean that he really wants the development of the state rather he is looking for his own development…. These Buggers have made Bihar a miserable place to live… No governance… Utter nonsense behaviour of government officials… Corruptions like hell…. I am proud of Bihar and i am Proud to be a Bihari but my friend its only because of its past agony…. There is nothing to be proud of Bihar in recent days…. Its rude but is a bitter Truth… Rather than voting and giving these buggers a chance every single time, why can’t the youth of Bihar take a stand and make this state, make this country a better place to live… ?? n trust me, Its Better later than never…

Atul Mishra, you sound like a fool and your interpretation reflects your poor understanding about caste and politics in Bihar, Nitish carries a legacy of politics of more than 60 years which firmly believes in divide and rule, and option suggested by you as a role model Modi reflects how pitiable knowledge and understanding you have . BJP and Modi too have gone to an extent sharing bed with those with whom they should not have been. So, don’t give Modi and BJP as example. Reflect your crisis.

Modi, the chai wala is no good and Nitish comparatively is far more educated and sensible towards the society. BJP is trying to play smart, but Nitish is smarter….
