Remembering Amrish Puri, inarguably the greatest screen villain and one of the greatest actors of all times.
Amrish Puri was an actor par excellence. There have been very few actors in Indian cinema who have played their roles with such élan, as this “master-screen villain” did. His big ever dilated eyes, his baritone, that tall physique and that fanatic laugh were iconic.
The problem with many established actors (legends included) is that they tend to overdo themselves. But Amrish Puri never overdid Amrish Puri, he in fact never played himself on the screen. He was either Advocate Chaddha or Mogambo or Mola Ram or Bhairav Nath or Durjan Singh and that’s why he was able to impart a distinct shade to all of his characters.
The Man who has not just played many roles but has brought all human, divine and satanic emotions alive on the silver screen.
