Vasantiben Hasmukhlal Modi is extremely ecstatic at the prospect of her brother Narendra Modi becoming India’s Prime Minister. Hailing from Unjha, the modest homemaker is extremely proud of her brother, who rose from humble beginnings to make his family and his region proud.

In an interview to AFP news agency, Vasantiben Hasmukhlal Modi clearly mentioned, “They can’t believe it, can’t believe that someone from such a simple background could beat them,” It was a subtle dig at the naysayers, who doubted whether the three time Gujarat CM would ever make it to the echelons of the Lutyens’s Delhi.

However, proving everyone wrong, in a landslide victory, PM Modi and his party Bharatiya Janata Party won a landslide victory over the Congress and their allies, winning 282 seats alone in a total of approximately 330+ seats.

Congress’s election frontman was Rahul Gandhi, the latest in a bloodline which has already provided three of India’s prime ministers. “We had never imagined that he would lead the entire country one day. He left the house and the family one fine day and years and years later, look where he is now,” said his sister Vasantiben Hasmukhlal Modi, who lives in the town of Unjha.

Born to a humble family in Vadnagar, Narendra Modi had seen a roller coaster of a career. From evading arrests during the emergency, to facing the SIT constituted by the Supreme Court over the Gujarat riots of 2002, he had seen it all. Yet, he emerged victorious, and won three times as the CM of Gujarat before going to become the current Prime Minister of India.
