The reported confrontation follows allegations that the Mother Teresa Trust, established in Ammapet in Salem district in 2023, was used to attract thousands of people through a series of schemes and promises. The trust was reportedly founded by four individuals — Vijayabanu, Jayapradha, Pastor Senthilkumar and Jhansi. According to accounts cited by the publication, the organisation initially offered services including computer training, tailoring classes, English coaching and preparation for competitive examinations.
As the organisation expanded its reach, it allegedly introduced additional programmes involving groceries, pensions and other benefits. The claims became more serious when members were reportedly encouraged to invest money with promises that their investments would be doubled. Victims also alleged that they were told funds arriving from abroad would eventually be distributed among those participating in the schemes.

Victims claimed that approximately 45,000 families became involved and that nearly ₹3,000 crore was ultimately collected. The reported figure is based on allegations made by victims and has not been independently established by a court. Pastor Senthilkumar has emerged as a central figure in the victims’ accounts. One victim told The Commune that the pastor was the person who introduced them to the scheme and persuaded people to participate. According to the report, Senthilkumar then left through the rear entrance. The confrontation subsequently turned chaotic, with chairs and tables allegedly damaged inside the premises. The protesters reportedly remained in the hall and staged a sit-in, demanding action against those accused.

One woman reportedly said that she and members of her family and workplace had collectively invested ₹20 lakh. One protester reportedly claimed that around 40 families had lost their lives and demanded that the case be treated as a murder matter.
