Hanuman Ansh, a small-budget Hindi devotional drama, has turned into one of the most surprising box-office stories of 2026 — and it’s about to go global.
Hanuman Ansh is a 2026 Indian Hindi-language devotional drama film written, directed and produced by Dr. Vishal Chaturvedi under his banner Swambhu Media Network, based on his book “Divine Detour: That Changed My Life,” which chronicles the life of Neem Karoli Baba. It stars Shobhinav Satyaa and Chandan Anand in the lead roles.
The story is set in the spiritual center of early 20th century India, following thirteen-year-old Lakshman Das, who leaves his hometown of Braj after the death of his mother — the only woman he ever loved — believing that only divine love could reunite them. In search of his late mother, the boy travels across the country exploring different paths of spirituality in his quest to attain Ram, eventually discovering that his true path is to serve humanity by loving everyone, feeding everyone, and chanting “Ram Ram.”
From Quiet Opening to Box-Office Miracle
Hanuman Ansh was released on August 7, 2026, and had a modest start, collecting around Rs 10 lakh on its opening day — but it went on to benefit from strong positive word of mouth. The film has since completed 27 days in theatres and continues to draw audiences, with trade reports noting it collected roughly Rs 7.73 lakh on a single day (Wednesday, September 2) even weeks into its run — an unusual trajectory for a film of its scale. Industry watchers have described the film’s box-office run as one of the most extraordinary stories of recent times, with the month of August called “miraculous” thanks to its performance.
Notably, director Vishal Chaturvedi has revealed that the film was actually rejected by an OTT platform before its theatrical run — making its subsequent success even more of an underdog story.
Going Global
Buoyed by its domestic performance, the film is now heading overseas. Hanuman Ansh is set for a global theatrical release on September 11, 2026, distributed internationally through Hombale Overseas. Hombale Films announced the news on social media, expressing pride in taking the film — and the spiritual journey of “Maharaj-ji” — to international audiences. The overseas expansion marks a significant milestone for a film that started with a relatively modest opening but steadily built momentum over the following weeks.
