Political thriller Article 370 emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 72nd National Film Awards, held at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, clinching three honours including the coveted Best Feature Film award.
Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, the film also earned Yami Gautam her first-ever National Film Award, with the actress winning Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of NIA officer Zooni Haksar. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award at the ceremony.
Article 370 won three awards at the 72nd National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Actress for Yami Gautam and Best Music Direction. The film’s producer, Aditya Dhar, received the Best Feature Film award on stage. The third honour went to composer Shashwat Sachdev for Best Music Direction.
The film, which centres on the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, also saw top honours go to Kartik Aaryan, Mammootty and Anant Nag at the same ceremony.
Gautam, visibly emotional at the win, walked up to the stage with a smile and greeted the gathering with a traditional namaste before receiving the award from President Murmu, with her husband, filmmaker Aditya Dhar, watching proudly from the audience. She later shared her feelings online, saying the moment was one she would cherish, calling it a reward for years spent staying true to her craft.
Following the win, Aditya Dhar also took to social media to express gratitude, thanking the jury and calling the recognition a landmark moment for the film and everyone who supported it.
Article 370, released in February 2024, stars Gautam alongside Priyamani, Arun Govil and Kiran Karmarkar, and was narrated by Ajay Devgn. The film had earlier picked up the Best Story award at the Filmfare Awards.
