A shocking incident was reported from Delhi’s Shahdara Railway Station, where a man was beaten to death following a dispute over seating while boarding a train. The victim has been identified as Pankaj Dhama, a resident of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh.
According to information, the incident took place on Platform No. 3 of the station, inside the Yog Express train. Dhama was attempting to board the general coach when a verbal altercation broke out between him and some other passengers over space and seating arrangements.
What began as a heated exchange quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Eyewitnesses stated that the argument turned into a violent scuffle, during which several individuals allegedly attacked Dhama with kicks and punches. He was severely assaulted on the platform and collapsed unconscious on the spot.
A personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) reportedly attempted to intervene, but by the time help could be effectively extended, the attackers had fled the scene.
The injured passenger was immediately rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the Government Railway Police registered a murder case and initiated a detailed investigation. Officials are examining CCTV footage from the station and nearby areas, along with viral videos recorded by passengers present at the scene, to identify and trace the accused.
Police have confirmed that multiple angles are being investigated. Deputy Commissioner of Railway Police Bharat Reddy stated that the altercation began as a verbal dispute while boarding the Yog Express and later turned into a fatal assault. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.
The news of Pankaj Dhama’s death has left his family devastated. He was reportedly returning home from Delhi when the incident occurred. Family members have demanded strict action against the accused.
The incident has once again sparked concerns over passenger safety and overcrowding on Indian Railways, particularly in general coaches where disputes over boarding and seating are frequent. With a confrontation turning deadly in this case, questions are being raised about crowd management and security arrangements at busy railway stations.
Police continue to search for the absconding accused, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
