A gym in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has come under intense scrutiny after police exposed what they describe as a deeply disturbing criminal operation functioning from within its premises. The fitness centre, which presented itself as a space for health and weight management, now faces serious allegations involving drugging, sexual assault, and organised blackmail.
The racket operated in the Kotwali police station area of Bareilly. According to investigators, the Muslim gym owner initially targeted women by promising quick and visible weight loss results along with structured fitness training. However, the police explained how the environment inside the gym gradually shifted from routine training to a controlled setup where exploitation took place.
Alleged use of intoxicating pre-workout drinks
Firstly, police say gym owner Akram and his brother Alam used their position to gain the trust of women who enrolled for fitness programmes. As part of the routine, they allegedly offered a special pre-workout drink.
Subsequently, investigators claim the drink was laced with intoxicating substances. After consumption, the women reportedly lost consciousness. At that point, the police informed, they moved them to a private room inside the gym, where sexual assault took place. Importantly, the incidents were recorded without consent.
Blackmail operation and escalating extortion
Afterwards, the accused turned the recordings into tools of blackmail. Women were threatened with the circulation of explicit videos if they refused to comply with financial demands.
Initially, extortion demands began at around ₹10,000. However, as fear took hold, the amounts escalated sharply. In several cases, police say demands rose to ₹10 lakh and eventually reached as high as ₹50 lakh.
Meanwhile, victims were continuously harassed through phone calls, WhatsApp messages, and text communications. In addition, investigators state that they extended threats to victims’ families, including husbands and children, to intensify pressure. Reportedly, private images and videos were stored on mobile phones and a pen drive, which were repeatedly used for intimidation.
Complaint that triggered police action
Eventually, the case came to light when one survivor, who had been living under constant fear and blackmail, approached the Uttar Pradesh Police. Following her complaint, authorities launched immediate action.
Consequently, police registered a case and formed three dedicated teams to investigate. During the raid on the gym, officers recovered ₹10,000 in cash, nine vials of suspected potency-enhancing drugs, six injections, two mobile phones, and a pen drive containing videos and photographs. Notably, the presence of a private room inside the gym further strengthened suspicions about the alleged operation.
Arrests and expanding investigation
Soon after, police arrested Akram, followed by his brother Alam, based on interrogation leads. Moreover, officials confirmed that digital devices seized from them contained multiple incriminating videos, which now form a key part of the investigation.
Finally, investigators are analysing all recovered material to identify additional victims. At this stage, police believe the racket may be far more extensive than initially revealed, and further revelations are expected as the probe continues.
