India on Monday stepped decisively onto the centre stage of global technology leadership as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the five-day India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, bringing together world leaders, technology pioneers, and policymakers to shape the future of artificial intelligence.
Billed as the first major global AI summit to be hosted in the Global South, the AI Impact Summit 2026 has attracted participation from over 100 countries, with more than 2.5 lakh visitors expected and over two lakh online registrations. Running alongside the summit, the India AI Impact Expo features over 300 curated exhibition pavilions and live demonstrations. More than 500 sessions, involving over 3,250 speakers, are scheduled during the five-day event. Discussions range from job displacement and digital inclusion to child safety, data governance, and responsible innovation. Over 600 high-potential startups are presenting population-scale solutions in healthcare, agriculture, education, governance, and climate action.

Ahead of the AI Impact Summit 2026 summit, Prime Minister Modi underlined the economic and strategic importance of AI infrastructure. He said data centres would emerge as major job creators and invited global firms to locate their data in India.
Emphasising India’s expanding computing capacity and digital public infrastructure, the Prime Minister said the country was laying the foundation for a robust, secure, and inclusive AI ecosystem.
In social media messages, he highlighted India’s achievements in healthcare, education, agriculture, and governance through technology, describing the nation’s AI journey as one driven by both ambition and responsibility.
