Four Indian medical students were injured in a knife attack at a university hostel in Ufa, a city in Russia’s Bashkortostan region, on Saturday, according to the Indian Embassy.
Local media reported that the incident took place inside a sports hall at a foreign students’ hostel of the State Medical University. At least six people, including Indian nationals, and two police officers were injured in the attack.
The Indian Embassy in Moscow said officials from the Indian Consulate in Kazan, located about 400 kilometres from Ufa, were travelling to the city to assist the injured students.
According to preliminary reports, a 15-year-old boy armed with a knife, entered a dormitory housing foreign students and stabbed several residents before police arrived. He resisted arrest, during which the two police officers were injured, and also allegedly inflicted injuries on himself.
“The attacker resisted arrest, during which two police officers were stabbed. Furthermore, the suspect also inflicted bodily harm on himself,” Interior Ministry spokesperson Maj General Irina Volk was quoted as saying by a web portal.

“An unfortunate incident of attack has occurred in Ufa. Several persons including four Indian students have been injured. The Embassy is in touch with the authorities and the officials from the Consulate in Kazan are on their way to Ufa to provide assistance to the injured students,” the Indian Embassy in Moscow said in a post on Saturday evening.
Local media, citing the Baza Telegram channel, reported that the teenager may have ties to the banned neo-Nazi group National Socialism/White Power (NS/WP) Crew.
The reports also claimed that he shouted nationalist slogans related to the Holocaust during the attack. Images have circulated on social media showing a swastika drawn on a dormitory wall, allegedly using the victims’ blood, though authorities have not officially confirmed these claims.
The identity and nationality of the other injured students have not yet been revealed by authorities.
