Pakistan’s Army Chief and recently promoted Field Marshal, General Asim Munir, is once again at the centre of controversy. During his reported visit to Libya, a photograph allegedly showing Munir wearing a bulletproof jacket has gone viral on social media. However, it is important to note that this image is circulating on social media. However, TFI do not certify this claim.
Soon after the picture began circulating, questions were raised about Pakistan’s political and military establishment. This controversy gained further traction because, only days earlier, former minister and vocal critic Mirza Shehzad Akbar had claimed that Asim Munir is “constantly fearful” and never moves without protective gear.
Now, social media users are presenting the viral image as supposed confirmation of that allegation.
Meanwhile, several posts have gone even further. According to unverified claims circulating online, Munir allegedly lives in constant fear and keeps loaded pistols and rifles with him even inside his residence. Some users have also claimed that he wears a bulletproof jacket under his uniform at all times and, reportedly, even sleeps while wearing it. However, these assertions remain unsubstantiated and are not backed by any credible evidence.

As a result, social media platforms are flooded with sharp reactions. On one hand, users are questioning how the chief of an army that claims to be among the “bravest in the world” feels unsafe even on foreign soil. On the other hand, many are linking this narrative to Pakistan’s internal instability, fear of terrorism, factionalism within the army, and ongoing power struggles.
At the same time, supporters of Munir argue that wearing protective gear is a standard security protocol, especially during overseas visits or in volatile environments. Nevertheless, critics counter that this is not just about security but reflects deep fear and mistrust within Pakistan’s power structure.

So far, neither the Pakistan Army nor Asim Munir has issued any official clarification regarding the viral photo or the accompanying claims. Therefore, it must be emphasised that the entire discussion is driven by social media narratives rather than verified reporting.
For now, the image and the claims surrounding it have intensified debate over Pakistan’s military leadership, internal security situation, and the credibility of its strength, even as the facts behind these allegations remain unclear.
