Ahead of New Year celebrations, Delhi Police carried out a large overnight crackdown to maintain law and order in the national capital. As part of this effort, the South-East district police launched Operation Aaghat 3.0, targeting criminals, habitual offenders, and illegal activities across different areas.
The operation was aimed at preventing crime during the festive season. Therefore, police teams conducted coordinated raids late at night and early morning. These raids focused on areas known for criminal activity. As a result, a large number of suspects were taken into custody.
According to Delhi Police, at least 285 accused were arrested during the operation. These arrests were made under several laws, including the Arms Act, Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Gambling Act. In addition, 504 people were detained as a preventive measure to ensure peaceful New Year celebrations.
Moreover, police also took action against 116 “bad characters”, a term used for habitual offenders. These individuals were detained to stop them from creating trouble. Meanwhile, 10 criminals involved in property crimes were arrested during the drive.

Massive Seizure of Weapons, Liquor, Drugs, and Stolen Property
During the operation, police seized a large quantity of illegal items. Notably, 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, and 27 knives were recovered. This highlights the scale of illegal weapon circulation in the area.
In addition, police seized 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor and around 6 kilograms of ganja. These recoveries were made under the NDPS and Excise Acts. Meanwhile, action against gambling led to the recovery of ₹2.3 lakh in cash.
The operation also focused on vehicle theft. As a result, five auto-lifters were arrested. Furthermore, police recovered 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler during the raids. In another significant recovery, around 210 stolen or lost mobile phones were seized.
Altogether, police took action against 1,306 individuals under preventive measures. This step was taken to deter crime before it could happen.
Speaking on the operation, DCP South-East Hemant Tiwari said that Operation Aaghat 3.0 aims to curb crime and strengthen the sense of security among citizens. He also added that such drives will continue in the future.
Overall, the operation reflects Delhi Police’s proactive approach to maintaining law and order during major public events.
