Congress' Post On Bihar, Bidis Sparks Row

At a time when Bihar is gearing up for assembly elections, the Congress party has once again shown its contempt for the people of the state. In a shocking post from its Kerala unit, the grand old party attempted to take a jibe at GST reforms but ended up ridiculing Biharis. The post on X (formerly Twitter) read, “Bidis and Bihar start with B. Cannot be considered a sin anymore.” The remark not only mocked the people of Bihar but also highlighted the arrogance and insensitivity of the Congress, which has a history of insulting common citizens in its bid to play petty politics. The post has since been deleted, but the damage is already done, triggering a massive political storm.

Bihar Mocked, GST Twisted Into Insult

The Kerala Congress unit claimed to be targeting the BJP over the GST Council’s decision to reduce tax on bidis from 28% to 18%. However, instead of presenting a logical political critique, the party chose to mock Bihar itself. The comparison of Bihar with bidis was seen as a direct insult to the people of the state, known for their sacrifices in India’s freedom struggle and their contributions to nation-building.

While the GST cut on bidis was part of an overall rationalisation of tax slabs, Congress twisted it into a narrative of appeasement, ignoring the broader context. Former Congress MP Raashid Alvi even claimed the move was linked to Bihar’s upcoming elections, calling it “unfortunate.” But what has enraged political leaders and ordinary citizens alike is the fact that Congress used Bihar as a punching bag in its social media campaign.

BJP, JDU, and Biharis Hit Back Strongly

The reaction to Congress’ mockery was swift. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary called it “an insult to the entire state,” reminding people that this was the same Congress which earlier insulted Prime Minister Modi’s late mother. JDU leader Sanjay Kumar Jha slammed the party, saying, “B doesn’t just mean bidi, it also means buddhi (intellect), which you lack. B also means budget, which makes you jealous when Bihar receives special assistance.”

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also tore into the Congress, stating, “If B is for Bidi and Bihar, then C is for Congress and Corruption.” The outrage is not confined to political circles; common citizens have expressed their anger at being belittled yet again by a party that seeks their votes but mocks their identity.

A Pattern of Insults: From PM Modi’s Mother to Bihar Workers

This incident is not isolated. Just a few days ago, during Congress’ so-called Vote Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, vile abuses were hurled at Prime Minister Modi’s late mother. And now, barely a week later, the Kerala Congress unit has come up with another derogatory remark.

The insult becomes even more glaring considering that Congress invited Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin to campaign in Bihar. Stalin’s DMK is notorious for insulting and threatening Bihari migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. Dayanidhi Maran, a DMK MP, had openly said Biharis come to Tamil Nadu to clean toilets. Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi too had mocked migrant labourers with his “UP, Bihar de bhaiye” comment. It is this repeated pattern of abuse against Biharis, from DMK to Congress, that has exposed the deep-seated contempt in the opposition’s so-called INDIA bloc.

Congress’ Arrogance, Bihar’s Resolve

The Kerala Congress unit’s “B for Bidi, B for Bihar” remark is yet another reminder of why the party keeps sinking deeper in the minds of ordinary Indians. Instead of respecting states and their people, Congress routinely mocks, insults, and stereotypes them. This arrogance and elitism have alienated vast sections of the population who once trusted the party.

The bigger question is when will Rahul Gandhi and his party learn that India’s people are not mere vote banks to be mocked and manipulated? Bihar has a glorious history of intellect, bravery, and resilience, from Chanakya to Jayaprakash Narayan. By insulting Bihar, Congress has once again insulted the soul of India’s democracy. People are rejecting the party because of its repeated arrogance and lack of respect for ordinary citizens. Until the Congress changes its course, it will continue to receive only one gift from the people ‘defeat’.
